Half of our team should retire eventually. I don't think they have but one more year in them. What do we do then? I mean do we just go out and get more ex knicks that were pushed out of new york? Do we start getting a few younger players to start meshing with Yao and T-Mac now since they are the backbone of this franchise?

Do we go after even older guys than we have no?

    Just a little thought.

The beauty of this is our 2 franchise players are set. We simply need the right supporting cast. We can acquire those guys via the draft or free agency. I'm not really concerned with replacing role players.

Jeff Van Gundy will be gone by then, so we will be getting former Lakers and Bulls :)

The beauty about the NBA is there are always role players available... so umm... we go get some. :)

that is good news because when all these contracts expire, we have money for better players. Usually people get more money than they deserve in their last year.

I plan on getting them each some of those clever black "Over the Hill!" balloons and throwing a retirement party! I love parties!

How's about Bender? Will Indiana pull the plug if he lazes his way through this season?

As long as the team still has Yao and McGrady, the rest will be on the Rockets to develop young talent around them and acquire solid veteran talent to help the team go.

I could see guys like Sura, Lue, Padgett and even Nachbar hanging around with this team for a while assuming they play well.

From a cap standpoint, a wonderful thing about having a potentially great core like Yao and T-Mac is that we will be more likely to get players willing to take a paycut to play for a contender. I look forward to being the anti-Golden State in terms of free-agent signings.

    exactly !!!

one more year left in them... other than Dike (who is older than dirt) and maybe Ward (who looks more like a 33 year old football player than a 32 year old basketball player)

who was this thread starter talking about

    a 27 year old Mo T
    a 25 year old Tmac
    a 24 year olf Yao

and watch what you say about 32 year olds... they can still contribute

It shouldn't be a problem in a couple of years. We will just fill the holes with Marbury (PG), Jamal Crawford (backup SG), Tim Thomas (SF), Kurt Thomas (PF) & Nazi Mohammed (backup C) which will all be perfectly well into their 30's to fit JVG's system. :)

role players are allways available. we will find a new starting PG and SF next summer. they should be younger than the ones we have now.

also one of our PF's will be gone, and i don't think its gonna be mo or padgett. so that takes care of another "old" guy.

for some reason i feel like boki and lue will be gone by the deadline because they have a total of just under $4M in ending contracts and they are young. by that time sura will have replaced boki in the rotation.
