Not a bad episode. ****'s about to go down. There are only two more episodes. Can't wait for the Morrow/Kirch throwdown. Watched Alien and Aliens too many times to count, and watched Alien Prometheus and Alien Covenant over the weekend. Super dumb super smart scientists are the bread and butter of the plot of this franchise. It just is what it is.
this is true, but the stupidity is getting absurd now…they’re not even trying to write these characters to have smarts or any sort of survival instincts
That was really great back and forth... "You're just a piece of human, made somewhat whole" "You're just a machine."
Alien, yes, the crew made dumb mistakes but well-intentioned. They were also miners, so not really book smart on extraterrestrials. Their decision-making was believable. Aliens, there weren't any scientists. They were mostly Marine grunts that were overly cocky and got into a bad situation. Prometheus had dumb scientists. The geologist mapper and biologist were widely criticized for their stupidity. Prometheus was largely disliked for the bad decisions the characters made, too. Covenant was not as bad. They were dealing with large unknowns as they never encountered airborne black goo, chest bursters or xenomorphs. One bad decision that sticks out was the backup captain following David into his secret dungeon. Otherwise, the characters were not as dumb as we've seen in Alien Earth. Alien Earth has by far the dumbest characters, and it's perfectly fine to criticize that. We don't have to watch with rose colored glasses because we're fans of the franchise. The writers need to do better.
What was crazy was when Kirsh stepped into the elevator, I thought we were finally going to get some clarity on what his game is. I thought he was going to propose he and Morrow work together to undermine the Boy Genius (because Kirsh very obviously has his own thing going, just not 100% sure what yet -- my wife thinks he just has general disdain for humans altogether and is working to get the alien specimens as weapons to fight them)...instead we immediately see that those two have nothing but the utmost hate for each other. And it was glorious. Like I said before, if those two don't fight each other before season 1 is done, it will be a travesty of storytelling.
Agreed. The level of stupidity is objectively bad but they did build in some explainations for it. I expected more from Tootles/Isaac - It will be interesting to see if he stays "dead" The other black KidBot seems to be the one most adjusted I am trying to figure out how they will kill him off Because they really not doing anything interesting with him I think they have Season 2 already greenlit so these next 2 episodes will be interesting (I hope we don't have to wait 3 yrs for it) I am also kind of bothered by how weak the Hybrids are I felt like dude should have been able to crush the bugs These have been breakout Characters I also like how all the specimens seem to have evolved to fight Xenomorphs (someone pointed it out) These Flies can potentially melt the Xeno's exoskeletons The EyeTopus tries to get under their hooded eyes (which seem to have evolved to protect them from the Eyetopus) Rocket River
Not to get political at all, but we've seen this over and over just in our lifetimes: Robert McNamara and his herd of Harvard boys running the Vietnam War Enron, "the smartest guys in the room" Wall Street, the "masters of the universe", crashing the economy on multiple occasions Now we've got the Tech-Bro horde etc... brilliance does not prevent stupidity
Agreed Mixtures of Arrogance, Greed, Fear etc Why did boy got in with the Flies Fear of being found he broke the cage Fear of being seen as incompetent and not allowed to be in the lab again Fear of Failure Maybe some Arrogance that his new body could handle it as a 10~12 yr old kid . . i can kind of forgive it Esp since this is the 1st time we could see what the Flies do . . .. but IT was incredibly dumb Rocket River
One of the best "Chekhov's Gun" things was that the "fly aliens" dinner plate had a bunch of pieces of metal in it ...and then they melted the dude's face and ate it
Yeah, I totally missed this initially but my wife keyed in immediately. She saw what was on the plate and as soon as he made the decision to go in there she knew what was going to happen. It was some subtle storytelling. I also noticed that the food put in the containment of the giant pod creature that we know nothing about was meat, so we know whatever it is, is carnivorous.
Octogoat is creepy as ****, just standing there watching things. He hit the glass at the perfect time to make the kid jump a bit and get locked in.
