In an effort to keep things positive, we've heard what pisses us off, now let's hear what you respect. Keep in mind that respect is a little different from "love" or "like". I did that on purpose. - vision - courage - compassion - courtesy - open minds - tolerance - the beliefs of others and those who respect mine - those who educate themselves before arguing - people unaffected by appearance, money or fame - anyone who truly loves something or someone - knowledge - those who admit they don't know all that much - great art and music - an educated mind - those amazed with the wonder of it all - great writers - those who suffer gracefully - parents - teachers - my wife ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" Jeff, I have a feeling you just wanted to know how many people would reply in this sort of thread compared to the "Things That Piss You Off" thread. But, I'll go along..... especially since we can see by a reply count that in today's world negativity reigns. Things I respect: - Good drivers - They use blinkers, don't jump in front of faster moving traffic, turn in empty lane instead of in front of traffic, go slow in the slow lane, go fast in the fast lane, etc. - Loyalty - A lost art? - People with strong beliefs (but I'll add that they need to be able to discuss them with an open mind) - America - Refer to Almu's post - Compassion coupled with Empathy - I think people who are able to see things through the eyes of others are hard to find - Tolerance - One of my BIGGEST issues. If you can't tolerate someone else's beliefs, culture, or lifestyle, then I have a hard time being around you. Acceptance is another issue for another thread, they aren't the same. - Leaders of the Civil Rights Movement - Especially Martin Luther King and Malcom X, because they died for what the believed in. - Good Parents - A lot of my friends have recently become parents, and I can honestly say they are all off on the right foot to becoming great parents. Keep up the great work! - Good Defense - Good offense is more often a physical gift and if you're in the NBA you should be able to put the ball in the basket, but to be a good defender takes a passion for doing something that doesn't get all the glory. - HONESTY - Man, talk about one of my pet peeves. I try to be a very honest person, that way people can always trust me and count on me. You can't count on or trust people who aren't honest. - People who Question the Establishment - Why are things the way they are? And, WHY must some things be done in ways that are not the best way to do them? - My Friends - I guess they wouldn't be my friends if I didn't respect them. - My Wife - A super hard worker, a kid at heart, very intelligent, and can put up with me. - Good Bosses - Man, what a difference a good manager or boss can make. I've had so many jobs where I worked for a great manager for a while, then that person would get transferred and we'd get some terrible person to replace them. You don't have to be a pushover to be a good manager, just honest, fair, and understanding. That doesn't mean you can't be strict. One of my best bosses was very strict, but he was fair and that's what matters. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page

BrianKagy, I am one of those people! Ten years of music lessons, my friend. At one time, I thought I was going to be the next Vanilla Ice. Then, the rent bill came and I had to get a real job. ------------------ I Want To Thank God For Making Me A Rocketfan
-My wife has to be at the top of my list. I work between 60-70 hours a week while she stays at home with our three kids. The woman is an angel. She cooks, cleans, shops, referees fighting kids, and puts up with me after I come home from 12 hours of work. -My parents, esp. my Dad, for teaching me that a strong work ethic is what gets you ahead in life. -Last, but certainly not least, is my black labrador retreiver "Molly". She is the most loyal, trusting, and best dog a family could own. She watches the place when I am gone. Behad ------------------

1. My Family: Too long a story to go into details but it would make a tear jerker of a movie let me tell you 2. Complete Honesty: A person who can look at someone and call them fat if their fat or too skinny if their too skinny 3. Courage: For all the firefighters, cops, doctors, and world healers who work too hard for way too little in return, my complete respect goes out to you. 4. A Kind Heart: Those who help others who need it. Who help a complete stranger, or someone they dont particularly like. 5. Commitment: Completly commited people. Spouses who dont cheat, loyalty to a friend, staying at a job who took a chance on you when they need you. These are the things I hold dear. I myself am not perfect, and can only hope to achieve perfection in my 5 catagories.
