As someone who grew up in the sticks you also know that the culture or their social cultural identity is why they are MAGA. There's no policy positions that most people in the sticks follow. They are only that way because of how powerful it is to have ALL of your friends and community members forcing MAGA culture into the vein of their community, and forcefully rejecting anyone who dares admit they are a Democrat or brings up a talking point that might even sound remotely like a liberal position.

Think I'm wrong, go to a catholic church picnic this Sunday in one of the many country towns in Texas outside of Houston pretty much any direction you want to go. Go there, and tell someone that you voted for Kamala. Then see what happens.

The peer pressure culture that exists out there is insane.

So to your point around culture wars induced by Democrats on the outside in via someone like the President who in theory is in power, needs to bail out farmers, and refuses to do so because they vote MAGA.... furthering the divide....

I really don't think it makes much of a difference at all. Politicians at the national level just gotta stop worrying so much about that, and just make good decisions regardless. Mostly because the only way the culture of redneck communities is going to change is from within culturally. You as a president or member of Congress won't change a damn thing by either trying to avoid cultural division, or further divide... from Washington.

In this theoretical pipe dream where you and I are in charge of deciding whether or not to bail out farmers, I think bailing them out is the least terrible option in a bucket full of worse options. Just to keep private equity out as you mentioned. If we are talking idealistic eutopia here though, you might as well first just pass laws by waiving a magic wand to regulate and reduce the damage that private equity is allowed to do.... and while you are at it... overturn citizens united.... and while you are at it... restore the voting rights act which this Supreme Court overturned... and while you are at it.... restore women's bodily autonomy... etc etc. etc.

The amount of ways this country has in short order reversed itself from any and all the progress we made since the 60's is kind of freaking insane.

    I no longer believe this

they hate entire groups of people based off skin color, sexuality, or whatever is the culture war flavor of the month and view them as less than…they would gladly drag everyone to hell as long as the black or brown person, the gay person, the trans person, etc is stuck a few inches deeper than they are

that’s why they fall for culture war garbage so easily and feed on it like flies on a pile of sh*t

they don’t want everyone to prosper, just them while everyone else is at the bottom

everyone doing better isn’t a victory for them…their victory is the defeat of those they hate, even if they get screwed over just as much in the process

I`m torn simply because their farmers who help feed us, since we are now a "Transactional Country", loan it to them and they have to pay it back..........but hell, how could they pay it back? The last thing I want is Billionaires buying up the land which could be really bad.

Part of me says F Them, they voted for him twice............I don't know if they did it a second time because they were bailed out and assumed they would do it again?

As you stated . .. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE
as long as status quo . . which is what the Bail Out preserves.

I just don't see a pathway to bringing them to ourside
They have shone time and again they will cut off their nose to spite their face
They will die rather than share

Bail Them out and they will immediately go back to talking about ICE invading cities
or blowing up people with out Due Process

If they suffer. . . .then the base of this admin will have bigger worries than whether
Trans folx are in the bathroom . . or if someone 3000 miles away is eating a steak on food stamps

Cmon man get real. Biden literally bailed out the unions to the tune of 40 billion only for them to vote MAGA. Farmers and the working class will continue voting for billionaires until they feel the pain themselves. If you keep balling them out they'll never learn their lesson. Biden invested more money in rural America than any admin in modern history. What good came out of it?

People need to feel the pain or else they'll never wake up. You cant claim private equity is the issue and then not be upset at the folks who allow private equity to get more powerful by the day

Have the coal miners learned after all their pain?

I think it is more about messaging than it is about pain teaching something.....

this was a large part of it…I wish I could find the video, but a farmer said he tried to warn others in his community, but they made their vote based on racism and things like trans and thought they’ll just get bailed out again if things go bad

the trans hysteria is especially hilarious as if these mongrels have ever even seen a trans person or have to worry about trans people in the bathroom in their backwater POS town

The Rural community has a reputation of being backwards assed country bumpkins, they aren't stupid, but in the South they are very racist, and with all these schools being cut, they are going to be even more ignorant of the world - we are going backwards to keep racist old white people in power.

I am not sure the answer here, thus the poll, but I don't think pain works.

Messaging? Dude the teamsters union got bailed out to the tune of 40 billion. That comes out to 110k per member yet they all voted for Trump cuz they hated Trans people. Messaging isnt the issue but rather they dont feel enough pain to prioritize economic issues over culture wars.

Farmers need to feel the pain. Let me them realize what the consequences of their vote is. Bailing them out just reinforces bad behavior

Don't forget - Trump also eliminated a lot of farm to school programs which bought fresh and healthy produce from local U.S. farms and provided them directly to the schools (while simultaneously telling poor people they need to eat more fresh vegetables and school lunches need to be healthier so much for MAHA)

dont forget to mention biden admin launched a ton of climate related programs like Climate-Smart Commodities which provided stable income streams for farmers if they promised to grow certain crops or sequester carbon like alot of them were already doing. Trump folks canceled all the programs and the subsidies which were providing stable income to them.

They deserve nothing. They voted for this ****

The coal miners used to know back when organized labor was a thing.

The death of communism, great for people in communist countries, killed all that labor awareness and organization in the US.

Their grandparents knew, but the gtandchildren got distracted by shiny things and pissed it away with fantasies that they were going to be the one individual in West Virginia who pulled themselves up by the bootstraps.

They used to know not to trust the rich. Now they watch billionare Rupert Murdoch's propaganda network and suck it all in like mother's milk without any skepticism.

look at him begging for handouts

hopefully we get a sequel where he tells us how he lost his farm, went bankrupt, and might even lose the house

Who could’ve known that racism and homophobia wouldn’t pay the bills?

let's just starve to death and die!

Farmers are integral parts of every community. They should be the primary recipients of welfare, not people in cities.

Umm... it's happening in the future so stop growing food for China. China tariffs are speeding up what was inevitable.

China is actively pursuing its ambition of reaching a balance between its corn production and domestic demand, thereby stopping imports of the grain within the next 10 years, sources told Commodity Insights.

The Chinese Agricultural Ministry forecasts China's corn imports in the 2024-25 crop year at 13 million mt, 10 million mt lower than the USDA.

"While we believe a drop to 13 million mt next year is a low probability scenario, we do not rule it out," Paul Hughes, chief agricultural economist at Commodity Insights said.

Their only real hope for change is if they are forced to move to a place where they have to meet people who aren’t in their small cultural bubble and see the world differently.

People don’t realize… maga culture is ALL these guys have in small town America. It would be like if the Rockets played the smallest town in Alaska. It’s all they have culturally and it is their entire identity. MAGA as a brand is what is cool.

Again to use another analogy it would be like wearing burnt orange to Kyle Field on a Saturday to be anything other than a Trump supporter in small town rural America. You will have zero friends if you admit to being a Democrat in small towns.

So if in theory I was a Democratic president I would think long and hard about a bailout because of the need to measure outcomes long term esp with private equity etc. but yeah… no way in hell I would want to help out these people in a way that continue to coddles them and allows them to continue an entitled apathetic aggrieved existence.

    We haven't tried pain yet . . .. . .

    Racism is expensive
They are not dumb but definitely stupid .. . they know better but refuse to change
They know what they are doing and only mad about the consequences
it blinds them. . . . .. until their rose color glasses are removed. . . aka the social safety net of privilege and bailouts and preferential treatment
Let the face the harsh reality of what happens when you prejudices come back to you

    BINGO!!!
