I would trade Jabari and picks for Ausar.

    Tari is an unorthodox talent.

Still, tick tock. Nothing imminent, but he's the exchange for security and depth, especially if the bills can't be paid.

Really worried the Tari and KD extensions won't fit with everyone else. I was not expecting the cap to not be a 10% raise and I did not expect the Rockets to use the full NT-MLE. These 2 things have made next year a tight financial year when I really was not expecting that.

If Auser was on the rockets you could pay the Thompson’s less if they both lived together and share rent. Take your cap circumventing and shove it.

If we do that thing they do on TV shows where we have both brothers pretend to be the same person do we only have to pay one contract?

Anyone want to predict what depth piece(s) we could get for Tari? I would rather extend him for a bargain, but if he wants Jabari money (which was a good deal for us). We won’t be able to afford him.

I would be really curious to know what Tari's value is around the league is - I suspect it very much depends on what you are looking for as an evaluator. You can string together a pretty impressive list of both offensive and defensive highlights from each game but you can also string together an equally concerning list of missed shots and boneheaded defensive plays from each game.

I guess you have to be willing to take the good with the bad with him and that begs the question of just how much does the good(forcing turnovers, out hustling everyone, blowing up defensive sets) outweigh the bad (picking up bad fouls closing out on shooters, being out of position/losing his man, getting lost in offensive sets). Tari can be far more impactful than Bari, but Bari's emerging high level shooting makes him a better strategic fit and makes it much more difficult on opposing defenses to scheme against Alpi/Amen. Personally I think Tari and Amen together could be very special and unless there are legit long term health concerns, I think you have to sign him but he is probably the first guy on the trade block if the team needs to address other roster holes or runs into cost concerns. How much we pay him is really an assessment of his value around the league - if his contract is tradable for positive value, it's a good contract. I think it's less about comparing his contract value directly to Jabari's.

Me too. I really like Tari, but if you step back you could say he is an often-injured hustle player always playing a reserve role (even back to college). Not even a 6th man given he isn't an offensive sparkplug ... more of a 7th man. Those players peak at MLE money even without the injury concerns - I don't see any team risking a major restricted FA offer.

The question is whether the Rockets want to play that 'hardball' assessment at the risk of damaging their relationship with Tari. It seems things are headed that way though ... probably an RFA low-ball offer that creates good value for the Rockets but pisses off Tari, and then a sign-and-trade to get him somewhere he can start and earn a larger third contract while the Rockets pick up some draft picks and salary relief.

I would give him Jabari money and figure out the money later.

That's a lot of money for an injury prone bench sparkplug.

by most advanced metrics I would argue he was top 3 most impactful players on our team last year, even with the lower minute count/games played.

    Team Rankings
    5th in LEBRON WAR
    3rd in LEBRON
    5th in O-WAR
    2nd in D-WAR

He is in the 88th percintile in DARKO DPM, 92nd percentile in DARKO D-DPM, 73rd percentile in DARKO O-DPM.

He has great RAPM, landing in the 82nd ORAPM, 94th DRAPM and 92nd RAPM percentile accross the league.

He is absolutely one of the very best defensive playmakers in the league.
    • He averages 3.3 steals per 100 (100th percentile)
    • 4.8 deflections per 100 (93rd percentile)
    • 1.4 forced turnovers per 100 (100th percentile)
    • 1 loose ball recovery per 100 (100th percentile)
    • has a 4.5 stop% (99th percentile)
    • 1.7 blocks per 100 (87th percentile)
    • his D-SQI (defensive shot quality influence) is -0.4% (91st percentile)
    • his contest difference is -3.5% (90th percentile
The guy is a demon and worth more than Jabari in my opinion but I would gladly take him at Jabari's salary because of the injuries. I believe anything less than what Jabari got is surplus value .

Jabari isn't rated higher than Tari on a single one of those metrics.

I agree that the numbers suggest he is a high level defensive player but it's worth noting his numbers also overlap with probably the BEST wing defensive player on the planet. I mean - to some extent Tari gets a bump being an opportunistic defender playing with a guy teams fear as a defender. Regardless this tells me Udoka's job this year is to isolate Tari's minutes just enough to see if he looks like the same player when Amen is off the court but not so much that other teams also notice if not because someone is paying attention and definitely buying on Tari if those are legit numbers.

I'm with you, I actually value Tari higher too, he makes way more happen on the defensive end, and him and Amen is an absolute wrecking crew. Similarly with his hate of Golden State, he feels more like the fundamental player of the 2 for me haha.

For whatever it is worth, Tari also played a lot with Green, Reed, Holiday, and deep bench players a lot as well last season. Tari had great defensive numbers before Amen was Amen.

The FVV-Amen-Brooks-Tari- and Sengun/Adams lineups were amazing in small samples. The FVV-Green-Brooks-Tari-Sengun was also very good.

I'm not sure how well Tari will fit with Durant as Durant likely needs to be treated like a 4. The only lineups I recall JSJ excelling as the 3 were the doubke big lineups.

If Tari plays like he did early in the season, Rockets will be in good shape for the season, but have issues with salaries going forward.
