I'm assuming he's at the Florida complex, practicing and playing, but they don't really publish stats about that stuff.
Haven't heard anything about his defensive prowess yet. He is an obviously advanced bat. Can his glove develop this fast too?
The FCL season now ends before the draft, so it is now normal for HS draftees to not play any official games until the season following their draft year. Neyens is in Florida at the complex. We might get some tidbits about him coming out of all instructs, but otherwise will have to wait to see where he’s assigned next spring.
This is one reason I’m not sad they haven’t called up Ullola; less chance of him blowing out his elbow pitching in the minors.
Fayetteville and Asheville finished their seasons yesterday. The 2025 position player draftees showed pretty well overall: OF Ethan Frey 165 wRC+ IF Zach Daudet 139 OF Chase Call 128 OF Justin Thomas 113 2B Kyle Walker 107 IF Nick Monistere 55 I suspect Walker, Daudet, Frey, and Call will be in Asheville to start next season, all with a chance to really make noise if they play well and get up to AA. I'm extremely encouraged by the early returns on Frey. Caden Powell, and Cesar Hernandez played well enough to start next year in High A. Asheville had a pretty disappointing season. Outside of Joseph Sullivan and maybe Will Bush, no one had a great year at the plate for them. Kenni Gomez and Tyler Whitaker had terrible seasons. Walker Janek and Alejandro Nunez were middling on offense. Garret Guillemette and Lucas Spence played well enough to get promoted but weren't stellar for the Tourists. Drew Vogel was their season leader in plate appearances and he posted a terrible 63 wRC+.
He is a good athlete. He can be a solid defensive corner outfielder and likely can play some centerfield early on.
Keep the Prospects away from Alex Cintron and Brian Snitker. Especially the Trainers and Medical Team.
Astros pitching prospects, age 22 or younger in AAA, k/9 > 9, 2006 to present (min 20 ip): Forrest Whitley, 2019 Francis Martes, 2017 Hunter Brown, 2021 Ethan Pecko, 2025 Pecko is the only Astros pitching prospect on record to ever have a k/9 > 11 at age 22 in AAA (min 20 ip).
James Hicks vs. Wichita: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 9 K A solid end to what's definitely been a frustrating year for Hicks.
Jose Fleury closes out 2025 with six innings of one-run ball for Sugar Land. 6 IP, 2 H, ER, 6 K; the one run was a solo homer.
Zach Cole is at 48 pa in AAA, close to the 50 pa threshold where some stats start to get meaningful. His contact profile so far is elite: 93 mph avg EV, 48% hard hit rate. So is his plate discipline: 20% O-swing%, 9% swinging strike %, 88% zone contact %. His only wart in that regard is a slightly higher than avg called strike % (17%). But all in all so far in AAA has been a Yordan Alvarez clone but with way better speed and defense. He is waiting for his pitch, and when he gets it, he is smashing it. At this point I consider him a lock to be added to the 40 man roster this offseason and he’s one of the 5 highest ceiling prospects in the system. A meteoric rise in stock over the last 90 days.
At this point I do not have him on my 26 man projected roster to start the season, but I can not find a reason not to have him there before the middle of June.
Very interesting group and I think most of those guys are underrated. I don’t know anything about Wohlgemuth but I expect all the other guys to show well.
