Serbia lost to Finland and Türkiye didn't have much zip against Sweden, whole team looked gassed. Kind of tells me that Serbia vs Türkiye was intense as all hell and the teams both struggled to back it up 2 days later. Hopefully the Turks can get some rest before the quarters
Are you literally saying Sengun is going to have multiple Olympic gold medals? And I thought Jeremy Lin fans are delusional
Sengun didn't play with Yao on the low block, Sengun has had a lot more of the ball.... Scola was just as good as Sengun.....and he hustled a lot more too. DD
I am saying players don’t win medals, teams do. You didn't say international Scola will have more accolades, you said he is better (at least this is how i interpreted it). I am saying that Sengun will be known as the much better player on any ground, regardless of team achievements. Yet, I expect him to achieve international success in eurobasket, which is tougher than the olympics in general (the current one is weak though), except for playing against the US of course. You may not be aware of it but Olympics is not the top competition for euro players, it is euro basket. That's another reason Argentina is overperforming in the olympics, it is their main event, while for the strong euro teams it is more like a secondary event. They wouldn't shine that much if they competed in europe. Some side notes: 1) Argentina had two legit nba players, at a time when there was hardly any top level international nba talent. 2) Turkey plays in the euro qualifiers. It is much harder for Turkey to even make the Olympics without Sengun playing the qualifiers. 3) Those Argentina teams were good, but even with Ginobili and Scola they lost to Spain and Italy in the group stage in 2004. They were not particularly dominating.
Lmao you guys are funny. One claiming that Scola had multiple Olympic gold medals. Others failing to mention the other star of those Argentinian teams. Give Şengün a prime Ginobilli and the rest of that Argentinian golden generation and he absolutely has a chance to win gold. And the 04 US team was terrible and also lost to Puerto Rico. The last time Türkiye advanced to quarter finals in Eurobasket was before Alpi was born. And now at 23 he is leading his team. That's no coincidence and shows you how important he already is. Scola was a beast but Alpi is a different beast.
Ahh yes the 5 games Yao played in 2010-2011 had a huge effect on Scola. You can argue that Scola would have been a different player had he entered the NBA at 19 but that's just a "what if" argument. The facts clearly show that Şengün is the better NBA player.
The season of Scola I showed as his best, had Yao playing only 5 games, 18 minutes average. The starting center was Chuck Hayes, who averaged 8-8
I wished we could have watched Sengün against the likes of Shaq, Olajuwon, Robinson, Mourning, Pat Ewing, Dikembe, Camby etc...... The Golden Age. He would have gone with Speed and Agility.
He won Olympic Gold by age 24 though with better competition than this Eurobasket, with US team etc. I guess he was not the Clear Number 1 as there was Ginobili. But most always the Clear Number 1 Front Court player or Number 1 Big Man. Scola was mostly a better National team player than NBA player or Spanish league player....that was fact.
Seems very weird that people want to throw dirt on an established Rocket legend just because Sengoon is going to be the better NBA player. Where is the respect that you pay to the people that came before you all?
I don't believe that people are ******** on Scola. Definitely not me. Turks watch a lot of Euroleague and international tournaments. Everyone knows that Scola is a legend. But Alpi is a tier above him and he much closer to Pau, in my opinion. In production and play style.
It is more like Scola only fans vs everyone else imo. It is not a Scola vs Sengun thing. You could make the same arguments (their arguments) to say Scola was the better international player than Jokic or Dirk. It just doesn’t make sense.
Scola was a favorite of mine. ScoLandry era was fun. But Alp and Scola are nothing alike, outside of a crafty low post game with a ton of spins. That’s like saying Scola and Olajuwon were the same because Olajuwon had the dream shake and other counters to spin. It’s a lazy take, Alp is a completely different type and level of player from Scola. That doesn’t diminish what Scola did.
