It's because it threatens the pedestal they've put Amen on. And you've probably got a lot of the more rabid ex-Jalen stans now switching over to Amen in the same way so they're carrying on their same narratives. I'm happy we've got both, and I hope Amen catches up to Sengun's development and gets a consistent jumper because that'll help with the feeling cheated by the waste of a #2 pick in the tank tbh.
Sengun is dominating weaker competition, which he should.....he is a very good player. Just like Luis Scola used to do... DD
People need to stop looking at the stats and watching the games. Sengun was not great in the first half and he explained in the interview the game was schedule too early that gave everyone a chance. We need to be honest this is a much weaker Sweden opponent and it should not be this close. This is definitely a wake up call.
I think everyone understands that both teams have to play in the afternoon and have the same disadvantage - but this only applies when both teams are evenly matched. When one team is the heavy underdogs, any introduction of chaos or variance (like shooting a lot of 3s) is one way for them to pull off an upset. Playing in the afternoon introduces this variance as it benefits the team that isn't as good and has nothing to lose, whereas it throws off the rhythm etc. of the better team making it tougher to execute etc. That's all the Turkish team was trying to say, not complaining.
Alpi has learned the eurostep-through from Amen lol. This guy is awesome. Great tourmament so far, easily the MVP
I seriously envy your stamina for not getting tired of writing the same thing over and over. Maybe changing a word here and a word there is exciting enough, I don't know. Even just to read it tires me out though.
what is the point of being a fan if I am not watching games and looking at stats? ps: I know it is a typo.
Anyone that criticizes Sengun at this point is an idiot. Not sure what the **** else you would want out of a player. Let alone one drafted at 16 in a draft where we drafted 3 other absolute duds.
There was some emotion to my comments during the game. I just watched the game without looking at the stats. At one point I looked at the box score and was surprised to see Alpi lead all players with 15 points. The first half was just very unusual, not only his performance but the whole team. I am not saying that this was a bad game. It was a good game on a bad day for Alpi. And this is what separates stars from to rest. He was able to score and produce although he had a hard time finding his rhythm. His ability to get to the line constantly really helps here, which is another star trait. And despite missing three FTs late in the game, I think that his FTs look very good. There will definitely be a jump this season. Sweden planned the whole game around stopping him but at the end he was too much for them. He also made that clutch block and the dunk which gave Türkiye the momentum to win the game.
This is not weak competition. Obviously the individual talent level is not as high as in the NBA but the games are extremely competitive. Teams just give everything they have. Finland just eliminated Serbia in a huge upset.
Huge with Serbia gone. Türkiye's chances are looking better and better. How awesome would it be for Alpi to win it all and come back next season all ****-sure and full of himself?
That's cause you aren't paying attention - but I am right a lot more often than wrong. And I love Sengun - just as I loved Scola - they are literally the same player. Dominant in international play and very good in NBA play, but not an all time great. DD
LOL - there are high school games that are competitive doesn't make it great competition. It is a decent level but let's not kid ourselves, outside of a player or two on some teams it is not close to NBA level - lack of athleticism is noticable. DD
Scola’s best season in the nba was 18,3 - 8,2 -2,5 at age 30 in a team with a 43-39 record. Sengun just had 19,1 - 10,3 - 4,9 at age 22 in a team with a 52-30 record
I'm not going to discuss with you here. I already said that the talent level is not the same. Still these games have a very unique atmosphere and psychological and tactical aspects that are really valuable for European NBA players. Obviously someone like Andi Obst couldn't play in the NBA, yet in international tournaments he turns into Steph Curry. He scored 24 against Team USA in the last WC and the US lost against Germany. Serbia has the best player in the world, yet they lost to Lauri, a 17 year old kid and a bunch of players who are not anywhere near NBA level.
