Yao should block the ball or the baller.

Everytime there is a baller move into the paint, he just stand there with his hands up and wish to take a charge. While usually he was caught a blocking foul. Why can't he learn something from Deke, just standing there and blocking the shot. It's even worth to take a shot foul than a stupid and painful blocking foul. I think he should use his body smartly, otherwise he will be a decent center only.

i believe refs just like to call him fouls. He was moving a lot and got called many times and then people were saying don't move, extend your arms straight up. Guess what, he is doing it now, refs still call him fouls. He has to drop a F bomb on a ref before he gets some respect.

It's pretty obvious that Yao is not the shotblocker that Mutombo is. That guy has been blocking shots for over a decade, and can even goaltend and not get called. Yao just doesn't have arms as long, and doesn't have the same timing and positioning. While Mutombo makes it look easy, it's really not.

    when defending,
if yao moves in the paint, it is a foul.
if he stands still and extends his arms and the opponent player crashes into him, it is still called a foul against him.

i am just so frustrate watching as yao is playing.

i think the refs are really biased, caling these totally nonsense calls at yao.

How about Juwan not taking 16 shots??
And maybe give Yao like 10 of his shots.

Tell me if Im not speaking the truth Juwan lovers!!!

Tell me that I'm wrong that his 17pts/game (historic) is that he plays on crap teams!

    Dikembe played great tonight.

Yao is so slow off the ground that most of his blocked shots come off of bad shots of others. he doesnt have that quickness to jump up and block a shot.

I agree that he has to stop trying to take a charge, becuase they are not giving him the call at all. i mean he is the biggest guy on the court and should be able to stand his ground and be a bigger presense in the low post.

But it does help to have a PF that does play good defense and can block shots on the weak side, becuase yao is going to hinder the shot and while he is worrying about Yao the shot can be blocked by the defender on the weak side...in principle of course.

He needs to stop trying to draw charges. Just go up and be aggressive on D, instead of standing there and leaving it up to the refs, who have shown throughout his career that more oftne than not, its going to be a blocking foul on Yao

I think many posters have elaborated why Yao got into foul trouble so easily:

    1. Ward and Mot have trouble in guarding quick opponents, and Yao unfortunately is a poor weak side defender.

    2. Refs are reluctant to call charging foul on the opponents bcoz Yao is a freaking 7'6" big fellow. How many times do you see Shaq fall down and try to draw charging foul?

    3. Yao definitely is not getting enough respect from Refs like other superstar. Giving his performance, nor does he deserve it.

Charges are for guards that are quick enough to move in front of a player in time (like a Derek Fisher). Yao should not be taking charges. He's simply too slow.

Blocking needs gift and quickness. But taking charge does not work anyway. Yao and JVG should figure out.
