The team need time to gel and we have a rough frist week (damn you ESPN/TNT/NBA conspiracy to put the Rockets on National TV)but I started this to set the record straight - since it will apply to the King's game too

    Last year's team

    Lost at Toronto
    Lost at Detroit
    Lost TWICE at Memphis
Lost to the Kings FOUR TIMES

    This year's team

    Losst at Tornoto
    Lost at Detroit
Won (at least) one at Memphis
    tomorrow ...???

... by my count we are ONE UP this year from last season (and have not looked that good., YET) - if we win tomorrow we will be TWO up on last year (five more "steals" and all we have to do is match the rest of last season one-for-one and we hit the magic 52 wins)

so lets not jump off the ship into the frozen ocean just yet

Willis25, don't think of it as a win/loss comparison. Think of it as a team vs team comparison. Last year we had a team that had it's core together for 3-4 years. Yao was on his 2nd year. And the team was familiar with each other. Thus, each win or loss meant a lot more than it does now. Meaning that if we lost to Memphis, we'd have a good chance of losing to them again. Same against the Kings, Seattle or the Mavs. We played out of control. And we gave them chances to beat us. Even mid or late in the season, we played them the same way.

Today we are a new team, trying to figure out the post plays for Yao. Give us a few games to gel, and then watch what we do to Vancouver and the Pistons. We will play them better. The litmus test is how we do against: Dallas, Sac, and Seattle. Memphis will always be on our radar. All four of those teams were our nemeses.

I see a definite improvement this year, primarily because of the basketbally IQ of tmac. He was our offense for most of the game, and damn did he produce. He got 9 assists, and would have gotten a couple more if yao did not get blocked on dunks. He is an amazing playmaker, one who knows when to slow down and how to run a fast break, unlike stevie.

This year we really have a superstart in this team. SF is a very good player but never in the same level as TMac. He has shown that he can carry the team by himself.
He is also very smart and will make everybody in this team better. Lets be patient and sonn we will see everybody's game improve. Yao is going to recover from this slump and when he starts playing, this team is going to be very good!!!!!!!!!!!!

my point was that even without time the gel, we already did one thing better than last season - mainly, beat Memphis on the road.

Now, if we beat the Kings that will be the second "monkey" off this franchise's back

That's true. Here's our trouble teams for the last 4 years.

    Seattle
    Memphis
    Sacramento
    Dallas
    San Antonio

Phoenix (they're going to be tough his year)

    Joe Johnson
    Amare Stoudemire
    Shawn Marion
    Steve Nash

utah will also be a damn good team this year along with suns. I really don't know how to deal with those running teams with our slow pg sf pf , especially when they are running like crazy with nash's pass. It's hard even to imagine it.
