I can tell you with 100% certainty that Sengun isn't untouchable when it comes to Giannis. Stone and Patrick F would drive Sengun to the airport if it netted them Giannis. Having said that - most of what I have heard has been the interest being in trading for Amen Thompson and more.
I’ve just seen Giannis play against Spain (won), and have been seeing Sengun in the Eurobasket. I can safely say that Giannis is not better than Sengun right now
Unless Giannis has fallen off a cliff the last 3-4 months, I can safely say that your opinion is not one that Stone holds. Giannis is someone that Stone has called a top 3-5 player in the world before fairly recently.
Giannis just had 25-14-9 and played well… but Sengun’s game against Serbia was something different. It’s not that Giannis has fallen: Sengun has risen.
I would worry more about losing Sengun in a trade than worrying about Giannis and Amen fitting. I expect Giannis would fit with Amen as well as Sengun. The big drawback I see in Amen with Giannis is that the roster around them has to adjust quickly. Mostly, I think a stretch 5 would be needed. I waffle on whether I would trade Sengun and picks for Giannis.
Giannis is a transformative force of nature that all NBA teams must account for every single possession. I would not expect major issues with him fitting the Rockets. Trading Alpi for Giannis during the season would turn the Rockets upside down and I doubt it happens unless things go south and a change is clearly warranted.
I don't think Giannis gets moved until next offseason at the earliest at this point. If the Rockets want Giannis and they are willing to deal Sengun, I don't think they would wait.
Yeah, poor Alpi got "hosed" by settling for $185 million instead of maxing out at $225 million. Lemme get out my crying towel.
You would need more than Sengun and picks as the money doesnt work. Its a dumb trade we should have just 1 old guy max if we have KD he is that guy already. Adding Giannis just makes you better in NBA 2K but not in real life. Depth means as much as star power now just having 3 guys and scrubs wont cut it anymore.
Jokic is literally the best player in the world the past 5 yrs and his team has always gone nowhere except for 1 yr. The NBA is so competitive now one guy isnt good enough no matter how good he is. Giannis being a top 3-5 player means he is just good enough to be worth his super max contract or 35% of the cap. If you dont have a deep team around him he wont fare any better than on the Bucks, and on our team we already have KD eating another 30%. KD and Giannis prob a match made in heaven except KD about to fall off a cliff and Giannis not far behind. I rather not rebuild for 4 yrs and then be good for 2 yrs and then be horrible again. I think Amen and Alpi have a chance to be Dream and Drexler 2.0, like if we had them from the start instead of a couple years before they retired. We should give them a chance to grow and have a decade long run instead of trading them for quick wins.
I don't want to trade Alpi for him, but let's not make stuff up or talk total nonsense. These are Giannis' numbers from last season: 30.4pts 11.9reb 6.5ast 0.9stl 1.2blk 62TS% Overrated? Giannis is underrated to ****, he's a significantly better player than Shai in truth, those are all-world numbers, he's actually probably the 2nd best player in the league after Jokic. The problem is that his teams have underperformed since the championship so because he routinely puts up video game cheat code numbers people like you think he's pedestrian. Seriously, compare that to Sengun and he doesn't come close. We hope we'll be able to qualify that last statement with "yet" but you're literally talking a ceiling of #1 then #2 player in the league if Giannis is the measuring stick, let's not get that twisted.
Jokic also plays for an incredibly cheap and horrific organization, and despite that, when he has had even just his starting lineup healthy he has never lost a playoff series. If murray doesn't tear his acl never probably has 2-3 rings in the last 5 seasons.
Giannis has done nothing since they won a ring with an elite team. He puts up numbers because of size, usage and athleticism. The “freak” aspects fade. He’s not a very skilled basketball player. He can’t get out of the significantly weaker eastern conference. I would take Jokic, SGA, Ant, Luka and KD over him in a vacuum. Is he a top talent? Of course he is. But his game is not one that ages well, and I just genuinely think he’s a fake dude.
Giannis is one of my least fav players ever but KD over him is pretty hilarious, totally agree he's fake though can't stand him
I cannot help but laugh at Americans who just cannot accept a European / African guy with a brain who is a bit of a smart ass, has a big mouth and gets the whistle. Then suddenly his humble demeanor, his life story, his rise against all odds is “fake”.
You might call him annoying but how is he fake ....this guy has the best Origin Story since Wolverine......dude was legit borderline homeless in Greece or at least very poor. Also you cannot 'fake' the body transformation from Jalen Green to Lebron James. And then developing enough game to become an MVP candidate. This is really some hate speaking. I don't want him on the Rockets too as a non shooter but he is a great guy.
We will see next season, I hope you are correct. But as of right now you have to admit "Sengun is better than Giannis" is a pretty outlandish take based on such a small sample size. Respect for being willing to put yourself out there though.
