    Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume is calling out Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who allegedly broke the same law as Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, but without his job being threatened over it by President Donald Trump.


    “Mortgages signed by the Paxtons contained inaccurate statements declaring that each of
    those three houses was their primary residence, enabling the now-estranged couple to
    improperly lock in low interest rates,” Fox News reported​

    at least three of Trump’s Cabinet members call multiple homes
    their primary residences on mortgages.


    • Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer entered into two primary-residence mortgages in quick succession, including for a second home near a country club in Arizona, where she’s known to vacation.
    • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has primary-residence mortgages in New Jersey and Washington, D.C.
    • Lee Zeldin, the Environmental Protection Agency administrator, has one primary-residence mortgage in Long Island and another in Washington, D.C., according to loan records.

    It's actually very simple.

    When you claim primary residence (In Texas) for the benefit of a mortgage, you have to maintain that for at least two years.

    That was accomplished on the first (long time) property. The second property was 2015 (more than two years later) which means they could claim it as a primary (assuming one of them actually lives in it).


    The 3rd property - quite possible it's after their separation and the one who moved out of the joint residence gets a new mortgage individually claiming it as a primary residence and living in it.



    Being separated, each could have taken out a homestead exemption individually.


    The first property is actually irrelevant because they had claimed it as a primary and lived in it for more than 2 years - unless one of them still lives in it, then they can't each claim one of the other two as primary / homestead.


    Cook's two mortgages claims were within weeks of one another, not years and no 2nd person to take out one mortgage or the other - She did them both alone.

    It's not abuse really, many people upgrade from one house to another, I've done this myself but the rule in Texas and for federally backed loans is at least two years as the primary, then you can buy another and claim it as the primary while keeping the rate on the original loan without penalty as a lease property.

    The fraud occurs when you use it as something other than a primary for the 2 year window. Banks won't give you the same rate on a lease property as they do on a primary residence and really it seems backwards to me because lease properties generate $$$ securing the loan while a primary is a negative asset.

    She literally included the rent in her disclosures when being appointed. Why would we need video for something she wasnt hiding?

    Also, you can rent out a residence. Extremely common with a vacation home.

    While I'd love to see the FHA crack down on people doing this, it happens all the time. And I place a lot of the blame on loan officers.

    makes sense, but per the article i posted it looks like the last two homes were purchased while they were still married back in 2015 and they declare all 3 as their primary residence. and they declared a homestead exemption on two at the same time, which is against the law.

    "In 2018, the Paxtons simultaneously collected homestead property tax breaks on their family's home in suburban Dallas, as well as on a $1.1 million home in Austin, property records and tax statements show."

    also per the article...
    "Separately, land records indicate the Paxtons may have violated the terms of at least two mortgages on other houses they own. The mortgage on a home in College Station, Texas, says the property is for the Paxtons' exclusive use and cannot be rented out. Doing so would be grounds for terminating the mortgage, the document states. The home has been listed for rent on real estate websites on-and-off since at least 2022.

    Ken Paxton also holds a $1.2 million mortgage on a "5 bedroom luxury cabin" in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, that is for rent on Airbnb and other short-term rental sites, records show. The property's mortgage stipulates that it cannot be rented out.:"

    This all depends on specific dates and specific language in these mortgages - I don't know the dates and I'm not sure of the language in those documents - they could be limited to a specific timeline or they could be term length.

    If I had to guess, they are probably guilty of fraud .... and a whole lot of other shiit. But it might be tougher to prove than Cook's case.

    I don't know how we keep electing people like that .... on both sides.
