I think Yao takes it in the butt too much. Some of the calls on him are not fair. I remember back in the day Hakeem used to talk to the refs before the game and explain his moves. He didn't want them calling travel on what they didn't understand. If Yao knows certain refs have an eye for him, ask them what he needs to do so they'll swallow their whistles.
Yao's best resort in this situation would be for him to establish himself offensiely, or not play small. Some of the offensive foul calls he gets against him are bogus, but the defensive ones are mostly legit... Yao doesn't react that fast, nor does he avoid contact when he's in foul trouble anyways. Also, refs are calling it close throughout the league, not just against the Rockets. David Stern himself said that if teams dont react and change... they're all gonna foul themselves out.
Should the Rockets hire a former NBA referee to help train Yao? It seems the only people in the NBA who knows how and where Yao can legally move are the refs. Why not find a former ref to assist in Yao's development? Yao is now larger and slower. The opponents are exploiting that. Maybe Yao should foul out some more to make a point. If Yao isn't playing because of these stupid foul calls, NBA ain't gonna make any money off of Yao.
