The McGrady move was for the future, not the present.

I'm amazed at how many people are freaking out after two games. I believe our team will gel after a little time playing together, but I don't believe we're going to challenge for the championship this year. I don't believe the Rockets organization believes we're going to either. And I don't believe that's why we traded Francis for McGrady. He wasn't supposed to be the final piece to the puzzle. McGrady is an important piece to a championship puzzle, just as Yao is, but there are other pieces that must be put in place as well. And with the two principle pieces in place, and also in their mid-20's, it's not like we're making our last, desperate attempt to win a championship here. Adding McGrady is not like adding Barkley or Pippen.

I believe this team can improve on last year's performance, but I'm not going to get real worried even if they don't -- especially not two games into the season. And I don't believe the answer to our "losing streak" is to go out and sign any and every point guard that has been cut by another team. I'm content to let our current team gel, and look forward to the day when we add the other pieces we need to make a legitimate run at the championship in a year or two, when our primary players are in their mid-to-late twenties.

Thats true that there are a lot people freaking out... but look at it this way. This board have one of the largest members of any other BBS. If you think about it, only those who easily gets impatient or agitated about a Rockets lost or poor showing after a game will more likely to post to get their frustration out than those who are patient but a little disappointed. Notice how those freaked out members are either newly registered or only come out after a bad game. So in reality, there are actually less people who gets freaked out than those who don't, it just seems a lot since the ones freaking out are the only one posting but the majority of us are just fine.;)

You're correct about the long-term trade also....people already forget that T-Mac is only 26 and Yao is only 25. Trust me I wish the Rockets could just turn on the switch and get goin but thats just not gonna happen overnight. I believe it took Kobe/Shaq 4 years to use that switch?

Patience, unfortunately, is not appreciated in the world of the NBA. Fans and media judge teams and players on a per-day basis. It is too early to say that the season is a trainwreck, but if this team continues to lose someone in the organization will soon forget that this team is built for the future.

Yea, we have to also remember that Yao is trying to learn how to play with another "go-to" guy that has different skill sets than Francis, and TMac is trying to learn how to play with another "go-to" guy for the first time in 5 seasons. Not to mention it is TMac's first time plaing with a legit big man. I don't know why people would expect TMac, who has been the ONLY guy since he joined Orlando, to instantly mesh with another all-star. He is basically re-learning how to play more team ball and it will take time for both, Yao & Tmac, to get on the same page.

I agree with the point about the posters on this board. I just wish those who are not "bandwagon" fans would post more. I hate that after loses, this board becomes more and more like the realgm forums. I just feel, even if the Rockets were to win 60 games, that this board will still be full of "Trade Yao" & "JVG Sucks" threads 22 times this season.

No one should be b****ing about T-Mac or Yao at all. You are right, they are for the future.

But does JVG have to be part of that future?? Rox needed him right after Rudy left. But now its another different team. Its time to look for another coach who can let T-Mac and Yao loose.

I don't think Yao and JVG want to play in JVG's system.

Hey, thats how I felt man...but I'm patient enough to wait at least until half way through the season. If nothing has improve by than, I guranteed you JVG will be gone next season. His position depends on two things. How well we improve and progress through this season and how he uses his offensive scheme. We know hes a good defensive coach, but that might not be enough for the long run. Yes, T-mac and Yao are the key pieces for a championship contender, just like any other championship teams it will take a while to find the right pieces to surround them with.

Before the season started, I said in one of the "how good will the team be?" threads that they'll probably take 20 to 30 games to work out the chemistry. Maybe 30 games was an underestimate; chemistry can be a tricky thing. Worse, whatever teamwork we cobble together by December will be thrown out of whack again when Bobby Sura returns. We may have to wait until game 50 before the offence begins to flow as well as we hope.

We are attempting a difficult feat: to build a team based on great passing and teamwork.
A group based on athleticism and ISOs is much easier to assemble; this chaotic herd of individuals will initially be more successful, but will tend to have a limited upside (as we have seen the last few years with SF3). In contrast, the teamwork team will stumble badly at first, because initially there will be no teamwork. But if it ever comes together, look out!

I totally agree with you. I'm not worried about Yao and T-Mac. I'm patient when it comes to letting 'em devlop, grow and mature together. But for JVG, this is his last year if he can't do anything special, and good about this team. I mean, I need to see signs that he improves the rockets's standing and he makes Yao and T-Mac better as players. If he fails to do both, he should go.

Yao and T-Mac are the pieces. The rest will come together in time, and we'll be having a party on Richmond again in a couple of years.
