How I think it plays out: Yordan- Tomorrow 9/1- Garcia 9/5- Jake- @Texas 9/15- Trammell (unless Melton gets hot- Ha!- then DFA) DFA- Rodgers Returned for assigment- Leon 2026- Dezenzo, Sousa, Hader, Paredes, Blanco 2027- Wesneski, Walter
I think they should choose Javier or McCullers to piggy back w/ Blubaugh. Make the other the 14th pitcher on the roster. Brown, Framber, Arrighetti, Garcia, and Alexander are the others 5 starters the rest of the season. Abreu, Okert, King + whatever 2 (3 on September 1st) of the remaining arms are best. C) Diaz and Caratini 1B) Walker 2B) Urias/Dubon (R/L platoon) or Altuve 3B) Correa SS) Pena LF) Altuve or Melton or Trammell/Dubon (L/R platoon) CF) Meyers RF) Sanchez/Smith (R/L platoon) DH) Yordan Pedro Leon gets called up September 1st. At this point, with Urias on this team and Altuve playing 50% 2B and 50% LF, Dubon can completely replace Chas. Chas simply does nothing that this roster is lacking and no longer has any upside. He still has a higher floor than Leon so is still an option if Pedro fails miserably. Similarly, Trammell has a higher floor than Melton but no upside. Melton is preferred of the 2 but Trammell gets the nod if Melton continues to be terrible.
There’s a reason Garcia hasn’t been brought up after this many rehab appearances. His velo is down and he is not throwing well despite having decent top line results in the minors. I expect him to get destroyed if he is brought up as a SP.
brown Framber Arrighetti Alexander make sense. I think we have to keep rolling out Javier to see if he can get going with location. Blubaugh certainly is a piggyback/6th starter option and next in line. As between LMJ and Garcia, I honestly don’t know. LMJ has been terrible and shown he isn’t an effective starter. With that in mind, it would seem you have to give Garcia a look. His AAA outings suggest he will get clobbered, but at least we don’t know that yet. It’s a sad state of affairs between those two. I’m not sure why LMJ would get a start over Colton Gordon. One might say LMJ has a higher ceiling, but does he really? His floor is a lot worse than Gordon. With so few games left, do we really need to keep experimenting with LMJ. Gordon can give us 4-5 innings of not blow out baseball. With the return of Yordan, we can hopefully bash our way to some wins in Gordon’s starts.
Gordon has been terrible his last 3 outings. Which, his stuff sucks. He’s not an answer to anything imo.
Brown, Framber, Arrighetti, Javier, Alexander, Blubaugh for a 6 man rotation for the rest of the season. Garcia brought up in a 2 inning relief role. If McCullers does not want convert to full-on relief, he can be an opener for Alexander or Blubaugh; 14 pitchers on the roster makes that feasible. Abreu, King, Okert, and Kimbrel are the leverage RP. A rotating fresh arm is the 14th guy.
I understand. It's just that everybody is hot garbage after Brown and Framber. And Framber isn't much better really. Garcia is my last hope because the other guys have not been good when returning. Maybe even try France but he doesn't have the upside potential. The 2019 lineup would end up 81-81 with this rotation.
Alright, that dude Bonda on Twitter posted something from Isaac Paredes Instagram story. It is an image of Paredes with the words, out for the season, but then there is a caption that says “coming soon, stronger!!”. sorry, I suck at social media and tech, so someone else please post for everyone else to digest. people, what the f does this mean. Is he done, or is he coming back. Bonda’s subsequent tweets seem like it’s positive. Paredes gearing up to DH, Yordan in LF, Altuve at 2B, screw defense, we will pound our way to the title? @Nook any whisper of Paredes possibly being able to return?
Is that based on his weird IG story? The old graphic said "out for season" but he says "Coming soon. Stronger..." so I don't know if he was endorsing the old "out for season" graphic that dropped back when he first got hurt, or if he's saying he's going to be returning soon.
regarding Paredes, look at this from just a few days ago. He’s pretty damn active and it would support an interpretation that he is definitely trying to come back. I hope this works. (Edit - I mean I hope I’m cutting and pasting properly. I don’t know how I feel about Paredes trying to come back)
Javier’s velo is there. He is just struggling locating his fastball. I actually the most hope for him, even above Arrighetti.
