I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. In his second year, Jimmy shot 38% from 3 and 80% from the free throw line. Amen would be a college senior by now and I'm sure that he's been working with professional shooting coaches for years now. I think any progress from here will be small. There is so much wishful thinking around this guy.

Idk bruv. This offense was not good and the crowning Sengun is getting for it is a little much. I wouldn't really consider it an opinion, 16th rank, mid-level points-per-possession, fans cried 1.3 rivers about how the offense wasn't complex enough or putting players in their best positions. His usage is high, not quite superstar level but definitely a high usage player and like you say, focus of the offense. With no improvement, even if you gas his usage to "top 10-15 NBA player" level his averages as a center would be great but averages as a #1 option would be high key bad.

On the other hand, if you increased Amen's usage to the same level, he'd not only be scoring more than Alpe (or Jalen) he'd be dropping more assists than Alpe (or Fred). And that's without a theoretical improvement which I gotta say, we're both talking about Amen looking like an elite player because the guy just seems to continually improve. There is the caveat of how Sengun showed what he can do carrying the load, Amen hasn't. However, theoretically, Amen just gets the ball in his hands and his averages would be something like 23/8/6. That's like Lebron-light.

I think this summer is going to prove Amen is the one to build around.

Jimmy shot 38% on 1.3 attempts per game, then shot 28.3% the season after. I think his 2nd season numbers were very clearly was just random variation. He's a career 32.8% three point shooter.

There have been plenty of players who went from where Amen is at now to being average or better 3P shooters over the course of their 20s.

What he meant is while it is not impossible, it should not be treated as foregone conclusion or even something that people stress about every time.

My worry with Amen being the lead guard is his 3pt%. He's got a ways to go just to be considered a bad long range shooter...But I think if he can somehow get up to about 32% on 4ish threes per game, which is about what Ja Morant shoots, he's definitely a 1A caliber player. But again, he's got a long ways to go in order to get there.

And then there's the whole other issue of being able to shoot the three off the dribble and from other places besides just the corner which is what he would need to be able to do as the lead ball handler.

There's some optimism he can become at least a slightly below average 3pt shooter though because if I'm not mistaken he shot around 40% from the corner this season. It wasn't super high volume, but still it's a MASSIVE improvement from his rookie year.

Sengun is not the issue in this thread. Besides, opposing coaches game plan to stop Sengun all the time but I don't think you have heard any coaches game planning to stop Amen from scoring. The fact is the team does not yet have someone who can be called a franchise player at this time. Time will tell as these young ones develop. But to anoint Amen at this time is a bit of a stretch.

I liked our seed last year, it felt good after the other years under Stone. I’m all about our upward trend.

We literally spent 3 yrs tanking and got 0.500 immediately after. Thats a lot better than the years of mediocrity prior the Harden trade.

Prior to the Harden trade we had three years of missing the playoffs but never dipped below 0.500. This time we missed the playoffs four years straight including three years that were among the absolute worst in franchise history (3rd, 4th, and 5th lowest win%s in our history). That’s much worse.

People always complain about Morey but he did what Les told him to do and fielded a competitive team after the Yao/T-Mac era and then managed to snag a superstar. Morey did good as a Rocket, although I do agree there are things he could have done better, he still was a great GM with us.

Alperen Sengun is this teams only powerhouse and franchise player, Amen is a great defender and a great hustler,
:but first of all he has to become an impact player and make play off stats near to Sengun, become allstar, become his national teams prime superstar to be cemented as franchise player...
Being a great defender but having one sided and limited offense does not make you franchise player.
He is great, but Sengun is another level...

National team's star player is irrelevant to the NBA. That only matters in countries where there's only ever been 1 or 2 true NBA caliber talents. Like Turkey.
