So I am back to listening to nu metal and post grunge along with hard rock and heavy metal. I know that the first 2 genres are pretty derided around here, so I am not going to post in this thread for awhile. Rash, Buck, and Mango (where has he been?) - I need you guys to carry on with the thread.
Deftones’ new album…maybe their best album even better than White Pony. It’s absolutely beautiful, incredible and phenomenal all rolled into one.
How old were you in 1994? In my opinion, Dookie was the first album to strike a perfect balance of pop and punk . They were a "gateway" for a lot of people (especially young kids and teens). That nostalgia never goes away. The songs were catchy with memorable hooks, but still had enough of an edge (and tempo) to earn the "punk" credentials...at least for uninitiated. The mileage probably varies depending on how old you were when Dookie first came out. I suspect if people were already into punk rock and perhaps a little older, then it could be seen as too cheesy/poppy.
Me and my kids are having a listening party tonight. They've been counting the days until this release.
