Being released, Yankees would be responsible for the rest of his contract? Wonder if Murph/Miller would think he'd be worth the shot adding another experienced arm and I'd like to say he'd said good things about us a couple years ago?
Granted I don’t keep up with all the players and how they are doing, I remember there was a time Stroman was very sought after by the Astros, but the asking price for a trade was way too high. I wonder if the Astros view anything salvageable with his arsenal?
Well if he is a problematic personality, then I agree to steer clear of that Pandora’s box. I just have always thought his name would be super cool in an Astros uniform.
I feel the clubhouse can reel him in if they wanted to... whereas with Bauer... the entire team hated him to begin with.
Partially as a reverse-jinx attempt and partially as a distraction from misery, here are 2 offseason trades I think make some measure of sense: Braves get: SS Jeremy Pena C Yainer Diaz Astros get: C Sean Murphy P JR Ritchie IF Tate Southisene P Owen Murphy $8M Braves get a controllable affordable star SS and swap Murphy for Diaz who is a better fit to play DH and back up Baldwin. Astros get 2 of Atlanta’s top 3 prospects and 3 of their top 10, plus they upgrade defensively at starting catcher. Their farm goes from below average to above average with this trade and between the 2025 draft, this trade, and the 2026 draft (where they should be in position to add 5-6 of the top 100 players available), the Astros would have one of the top 5-10 farm systems in baseball in the lower levels late next year. This trade also clears the infield log jam. Marlins get: OF Jacob Melton 2B Brice Matthews P Jackson Nezuh Astros get: P Sandy Alcantara $7M Astros add a risky potential ace for 3 prospects who don’t necessarily factor in to their short or long term plans. 2026 opening day roster: 2B Altuve 3B Paredes DH Alvarez SS Correa 1B Walker C Murphy LF Sanchez RF Smith CF Meyers Bench: Dubon, Salazar, Urias, Trammell Rotation: Brown, Alcantara, Javier, Walter, Arrighetti Bullpen: Hader, Abreu, Sousa, King, Okert, Dubin, McCullers, Garcia
Pena should be the new face of the franchise. Pay the man. Diaz should be borderline untouchable as well. I’m fine with the trade for Alcantara, since Framber will probably be gone and he is going to be leave a big hole at the top of our rotation. I would like an upgrade in center if possible, but next year’s lineup can be extremely salty without the terrible injury luck. Pena SS Altuve LF Alvarez Dh Paredes 2B/3B Correa 2B/3B Diaz C Walker 1b Smith RF Meyers or trade CF Bench: Urias, Dicenzo, Caratina or Salazar, Sanchez With an off-season to improve his offensive skillset Smith may end up batting 6th or better. Brown, Alcantara, Javier, Pick 3 of Garcia, Arrighetti, Blubaugh, Ullola. Dana will build a good bullpen with Hader and Abreu as anchors.
Not a chance. The time to pay Jeremy was 2 years ago. They missed their window. He's too expensive now. Depending on how 2026 goes, maybe trade him at the deadline next year for a king's ransom.
Any homegrown player "extension" needs to be market rate... unless the player has a health flaw (Yordan, Javier), or is a young rookie that you're anticipating greatness (and can fork over a 10+ year deal) If they offer him market rate, he'll take it. Will still be more worth it than trading prospects or overpaying for a (washed up) veteran. He's about to turn 28 and will be 31 when he's a true free agent (if the CBA rules are still in place)..... so the length and AAV will be similar to what Springer/Bregman got vs. what Correa/Tucker was seeking.
Pena will be 30 and looking for $200M+, especially if he continues to play like he has this season. Not sure I would do that, and I am virtually certain that Jim Crane won’t do it. We should all be expecting Peña’s course to follow the same path that Correa, Bregman, Tucker, Cole, Framber, and Springer went down. If he was going to be locked up, it would have happened before his breakout season.
