Mutombo did such a great job in Detroit but didn't get any minutes in the Raptors game? Is he hurt? I think he could have really helped in the Raptors game. If this has already been posted I'm sorry.

the raptors were running a smaller, quicker lineup for most of the game. for a long time, they were playing donyell marshall at center. thats why the rockets didnt put mutombo on the floor...

We were wondering the same thing in the Mengke Battiere to HOU? thread.

    In that thread, Jeff said:

But this isn't true. The Raptors have 7'2 center Loren Woods who played 24 minutes and got 9 pts / 7 rebs. He's no Shaq, but he was a factor in the game, had some big plays, and helped to contain Yao.

I just think with Mutombo being such a crafty veteran that he would have helped by being more aggressive in the paint and would have gave Woods a few elbows to keep him in check.

The only time Mutumbo could have been out there was when Woods was out there but Woods was only out there when Yao was out there. Woods played 24 minutes, Yao 32. Unless you wanted Deke eating into Yao's minutes or Deke guarding Bosh or Marshall, there was no favorable situation to have him out there.

How much have you seen Loren Woods play? I would guess the 261 on his NBA profile is fudging a bit- in his career, he's always been a lanky stringbean with quickness. The fact that he's 7-2 notwithstanding, he's a LOT quicker than Mutumbo and most 7-footers this side of Garnett.

Woods is definitely the skinny quick type. Much quicker than Mutumbo.

Mutombo's shot-per-season quota was almost passed. Had to make sure to save a few for later.:D

If Mutombo stays healthy??? Look out he could be the X factor this year with his shot blocking and his hook even ugly I'll take those points anyday.

I don't buy any of that Garbage about Motumbo being too slow. I've seen him run up and down the court, and I bet he could beat Yao in a 40-yard dash. According to that reasoning alone, then Yao should have been benched Also for Juwan Howard. Obviously that is ridiculous. I don't want to see any more excuses for JVG sorry ass benching Motumbo. Period!!!

Dikembe does move pretty well from what I'm seeing. Sometimes i have to look again to make sure it's him. I"m so use to seeing yao out there that dikembe looks like more like SF compared to yao.

Deke is 38 years old (or 48 depends on what you believe). He needs his rest from time to time. We'd want him to be healthy later in the season. I wouldn't mind JVG giving him some time off on back-to-back nights and when we are playing teams that play small ball.

It's good to rest Mutombo and only use him when necessary.
