Going 5-for-4 is the most impressive part of that stat line.

Anybody have an idea as to the frequency of baseball runners who are over sliding the bag and getting tagged out?

I just saw PCA easily steal second to the point that the catcher possibly could have not even attempted a throw. He slid past the bag completely and was a good 2 feet past the bag. Easily tagged out.

This is a very recent phenomenon.

The only thing I can think is happening is they are now being taught to slide late so as to get to the bag just a little sooner. And the use of the oven mit. These things are obviously coming at a cost.

Wow. Ken Rosenthal put out quite piece of access journalism defending NY Cashman and Boone and taking credit from Brewers Murphy. Murphy "has advantage of working with young players v NY". Load of BS. The culture is what you make it to be. Murphy has earned the respect and can be tough with players. Cashman himself fired the Girardi for demanding more from Gary Sanzhes in defense.

Ken actually repeated Cashman quotes on this piece of "journalism". Let's all envy Brewers 5cent payroll and young kids to push around was the message. Clearly Cashman & Ken got irritated about well deserved Brewers/Murphy complementing :).

Might be an unpopular opinion but as an Astros fan I would love this. Way fewer 9pm start times for games. And if this happened anytime in the next 3-4 years, the Astros would probably still be the favorites in a division with the Rockies, Rangers, and Royals.

If they wanted to keep it AL/NL, here’s how I’d do it:

AL East: BOS, NYY, BAL, TOR
AL Central: MIN, DET, CHW, CLE
AL South: HOU, TEX, KC, COL*
AL West: SEA, LV, LAA, Portland
NL East: NYM, PHI, WAS, PIT
NL Central: STL, CHC, CIN, MIL
NL South: ATL, TB*, MIA, Nashville
NL West: SF, LAD, SD, ARI

Considering all the movement the Astros have had between divisions, I've got no love for the AL West except that it has been easy for the Astros to win. Granted, the Astros would have a 5-game lead on that proposed division and I do I like the prospect of being able to watch more Astros games.

They'll probably make us change our name to something that starts with "R," maybe the Houston Robert baseball club?

    Move AZ to the AL-S
    Move COL to the AL-W
    Move LAA to the NL-W

10 games ea vs division opponents (AL-S: TEX, KC, AZ) = 30
    6 games ea vs other divisions opponents (AL-E, AL-C, AL-W) = 72
4 games ea vs other league opponents (NL-E/C/W/S) = 64

    166 game season.

No way the players agree to a 166 game season

There is a fallacy that when you try to roster build with nothing but “big game” guys… you also don’t spend resources or end up focusing on the middle-class/utility types that are much needed on successful teams.

There is a potential ability to make a middle class team more “balanced” in terms of resources invested… vs. the top heavy teams. Obviously those top heavy teams have a higher ceiling but usually limited depth to counter-act injuries or slumps.

if thats the case, then the only other option is:
    12 - 36
    5 - 60
    4 - 64
...for a 160 game season, with 96 games played vs AL opponents and 64 played against NL opponents.
Essentially, you'd be playing your own division opponents (on avg) a series every 5-6 weeks.

It's either 160 or 166, for posterity & parity... but this also takes into consideration the league getting 2 new teams.

one single bad impression to young kids will make hold a grudge forever. this gonna create her villan's arc story lol

the yankees didn't let ken griffey jr take grounds ball when he was a kid even though other kids of yankees' athletes were allowed to do so. Junior hates the Yankees ever since. Even vow to retire if yankees were the last team to offer him a contract.

The Astros have over performed all summer with some scrubs and a bunch of kids. Now that the regulars are returning we can't even score a run. The kids are looking like the way to go. At some point regular over performance becomes regular production.
Our management was actively a part of the game while the inexperienced Astros played. With a mostly experienced team on the field they let out a collective breath "Whew" and relaxed. Suddenly the Astros sucked. Wow it is inexplicable.
