Trump literally said in May that crime was down 25% in Washington DC, and congratulated them.

The District of Columbia sues the Trump administration over its policing takeover.
    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/15/us/washington-dc-police-trump-lawsuit.html?smid=url-share

    excerpt:

The District of Columbia government filed a lawsuit on Friday challenging the Trump administration’s “brazen usurpation” of the city’s authority by trying to take control of the D.C. Police Department, in a marked escalation of tensions between local and federal authorities in the nation’s capital.

The suit argues that both President Trump’s executive order on Monday federalizing the Police Department and a follow-up order by Pam Bondi, the U.S. attorney general, “far exceed” the president’s authority under the Home Rule Act of 1973, which granted D.C. its limited degree of self-government.

Such an attempt to “upend the command structure of the Police Department” risks “endangering the safety of the public and law enforcement officers alike,” the suit says, using the Trump administration’s argument for public safety against it.

The suit asks the court for an injunction against Ms. Bondi’s order and a declaration that the administration’s actions are unconstitutional and a violation of the Home Rule Act.

The lawsuit, filed in Federal District Court by the D.C. attorney general, Brian Schwalb, comes after the Trump administration moved on Thursday to expand its control of the city’s Police Department by installing an “emergency commissioner” and revoking policies that limited officers’ cooperation with immigration enforcement.

Is it true that the head of DC police used to run their DEI office? If so then wow. She cannot be the answer to the District’s crime problem.

Trump Administration Live Updates: Federal Government Agrees to Return Police Control to D.C. Chief

    https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/08/15/us/trump-administration-dc-news

    • Washington policing: The District of Columbia and the federal government agreed in court on Friday afternoon to restore control of the city’s police department for now to the city’s police chief, instead of a Trump administration official. The city had sued over the Trump administration’s efforts to expand its control of the city’s police department by installing an “emergency commissioner” and revoking policies that limited officers’ cooperation with immigration enforcement.

The chief will remain after a lawsuit challenged the Justice Department’s attempt to install a new leader as part of an effort to put the agency under federal control.

Good stuff. We should all be proud of our brave DEA agents guarding the Lincoln Memorial instead of pursuing drug traffickers.

I just drove up through Shaw & Columbia heights - there's a rec center nearby that has been a hotspot for shootings, mostly domestic. A few parks with a robust drug trade (guessing it's fentanyl)

Didn't see a single fed and maybe 1 metro police

    Just a total joke.

You can tell them a thousand times they are gullible but it's pointless if they can't decipher truth from MAGA induced fantasy. They live in an altered state and nothing you say can change that if they choose to stay in the lala land of Trump.

How ridiculous it's getting when South Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia are pledging to send hundreds of National Guard soldiers to DC?

Yet, Trump threatens homeless Americans while supporting and praising war criminals like Putin and Netanyahu who have been committing crimes upon humanity for years. Maybe he should use those millions of dollars to start building more affordable housing in big cities instead.
