And those sorts of innings are why managers are now using their best leverage guys in 4 run games…. The Astros play way too many close games which puts Hader/Abreu in constant motion. He should have kept Ort out there, but he’s also been multi-inning him the last few outings. Need Dubin and/or Garcia to take some pen innings.
I would have pulled Neris earlier - but I also wouldn’t have started Chas and he had a big game. Espada made the decision he wouldn’t go to Abreu and Hader, likely after speaking to Murphy and Miller - and he stuck to it and it worked, so I give him credit. He didn’t panic and he had Sousa in case. I would rather Espada do that than run Hader into the ground before the playoffs. Also if I am a player and I see Espada not panic, that tells me he believes in his team. At the end of the day it worked and statistically it was going to work more often than not - so I will give him credit. Lord knows I have criticized him enough to give this one to him.
Anyhow...our leverage guys are rested now and Cora just blew one of their best relievers pitching him 2 innings since they made it a 1 run game so that literally was the best possible outcome lol
Wasn't there also reports about Hader feeling soreness or some sort of discomfort 2-3 weeks ago? or am i having a deja vu moment?
Right. It isn’t shoulder discomfort popping up after a nearly 40 pitch inning we need to worry about, but it’s Espada using someone other than Hader and Abreu sometimes.
ramon urias is already 31 years old? wth i thought he was younger than that. any who, just found out he's from mexico. Paredes got a buddy from mexico on the team.
Espada doesn’t even ask some of those guys in the pen. Murphy and Miller talk to the guys and then make the decision who is available. Last year Espada started the year cutting out the pitching coach and talking directly and it was a disaster.
