His numbers are pretty strong when compared to other switch hitters though.

Pretty amazing since he doesn't have much natural power and he's a pretty crappy baserunner. His career has been pretty much amazing considering he's really is only a 1.5 tool player. Full hit and he was somewhat quick when he was young.

Hitting is just one part of baseball. Bagwell was miles ahead of Berkman in baserunning and defense.

I wish Berkman was a HOFer. If he had half of Bagwell's effort, he would have been, but he didn't put forth enough effort in terms of conditioning. Berkman was my favorite hitter to watch. It looked so effortless.

2 or 3 more peak years and Berkman gets in. Very similar OPS for their careers. Defensively, Bagwell was definitely a better defensive first baseman. They would never put Bags in CF though.

Once again, this isn’t about who was better between the 2 players. Everyone knows Bagwell was better. Not at all the point though

The elite northeastern media asswipes will make him wait but he'll get in. Whether its first ballot or not whatever. Now, if he continues to do what he's doing now for the next 5 years......

    a) the bias of the northeastern region of the BBWAA is way overblown; b) I think there will be initial pushback, and it's not going to be exclusively from east coast writers. He's booed in *every* stadium.

I will be shocked if he goes in on his first few ballots. But the general consensus is turning on him, and he's been so good, post-scandal, that I think he's going to get in eventually. But I don't think it'll be quick.

I don't think it really matters. Ask Billy if he feels less like a hall of famer.

I think once ( if?) Beltran gets in, any excuse to keep Altuve out for the scandal goes away.

It will also reduce those who want to penalize him the 1st year but consider him a H.O.F.

    I hope you are right

But what I fear is that once the writers decide someone doesn't fit "their agenda" that guy is screwed

Zero doubt he deserves to be in

I don't think he ever gets in though

They may decide to punish him the first year but he will get in especially if he gets 3000 hits and the post season homerun record.

and he’s such a good guy and makes himself available to just about everyone all the time and as we know that scores points and equity with voters.

Sale, Basset, Giolitto, Votto and other players have gone on record to say that most all teams in 2017 were utilizing the MLB supplied camera in CF in some way to steal signs. I think they drag it out but he gets in as it was a thing, as a whole they turned the other way and let Big Papi in on 1st ballot.

Kent getting in helps his chances, but I am concerned about the bitter LA and NY voters keeping him from hitting 75 percent...

Kent has no effect at all on Altuve getting in

Altuve's issue will NOT be whether he has the numbers to deserve to be there

Altuve's issue will be that East Coast and West Coast sports writers will not vote for him because of the scandal, and stupidly because of the non existent buzzer

My thoughts on him getting in:
The road is getting tougher because he is now considered a detriment to 2nd base fielding wise.
And the majority of the DH at bats will be going to Alvarez. Unless Altuve is considered Yordan's back up when DH-ing and he is not starting regularly at 2nd base. I do not see him getting to 3000 hits he has what 600+ hits to go that's at least 4 years of 150 hits a season. With reduced playing time I think it is not very likely he gets to 3000.

I do think if he gets close, considering his playoff resume, it might be the thing that gets him over the hump, but not on his first time on the ballot, although being a homer I think he should be in in one try.

Edit: Believe it or not Framber is very important to Altuve's potential playing time. It's a lot easier to throw him in left field when all the balls will be going to Pena or Correa.
with him gone who's going to induce ground balls.

I do think that this Contemporary Era committee might, by the time he's there (and if they are still around), have a better chance at putting him through than the sports writers.

The only full-time 2B to get in on the first ballot was Joe Morgan. Rod Carew did, but he played more career games at 1B, Jackie Robinson played more at 5 other positions combined than he did at 2B.

Nobody should be offended when it takes Altuve a few years to make it.
