2nd year vince carter was a completely different NBA era - gary payton led the nba in 3pa with 6.3 a game (the current leader this year was Anthony Edwards with over 11.) That said VC was in top 50 or so overall in 3PA back then. He was never a pure inside player.
Yeah, I think there's not much chance of him being in the GOAT conversation like LeBron and being the best player in the league for like a decade-plus. Definitionally, the odds of that are incredibly low. But I do have a lot of faith in his ability to improve, and I personally think he can be an All-NBA level player, perhaps even a top 5 player who is in MVP conversations at his peak.
Oh for sure, I think Amen is the best thing we have to look forward to no question at all. I just think people need to slow their roll saying that he's the most athletic player in the league ever. He aint **** compared to young LeBron, never mind many other athletic freaks. People go too far with their homerism tbh, he's incredible but if he was in the all-time category he'd have never come off the bench for anybody. That's what LeBron's all-time athleticism meant, he was one of the best the second he stepped on the court, and whilst he's very skilled he did a lot of that basically just being a physical superhero. There's just levels to it.
Go to about the 30 minute mark: Jeff calls him the most athletic player he's ever seen. Pretty much echoes my exact thoughts from earlier in this thread.
Yea lots of folks in NBA circles are saying he’s currently the most athletic dude in the league. Zero surprise here.
Depends on how average is defined because the league average in 3 pct was at 37% ish one or two seasons ago, that is crazy high actually... Harden mostly shot 36% as a Rocket on high volume. The volume has to be at average of 5-6 per game to make a difference.
Like I say, most athletic right now? Sure. Most athletic all time? **** no, and Lebron aint the only one (Tmac's another, just go look at his dunks for Toronto, he FLIES.)
Man I can't believe I forgot about Dwight. His dunk contests alone would have to put him way up there. It's like people forget we actually watched these players in real time and can remember some of the freak level stuff they did. To claim Amen's the most athletic ever in a world where LeBron and Wilt exist is pure craziness though.
I don't see anyone in this thread saying he's more athletic than Lebron, unless I missed it. The thread was between him and T-Mac.
I don't remember seeing anyone in this thread saying Amen is the most athletic ever. Most of us think he's more athletic than T-Mac was (which was the question of thins thread) and probably currently the most athletic in the league.
page 4: Amen is best athlete we've ever seen in league. No one is capable of all the athletic feats he possess outside of his brother. Tmac may have a marginally higher vert but his 2nd and 3rd jump is no where near as quick. Hell the first jump alone Amen reaches his peak before everyone else. and on this page: apparently Jeff Teague said Amen is the most athletic player he’s ever seen (same Teague who a few months ago didn’t even know which twin played for Detroit)
I know it will sound funny … but I would add Charles Barkley to the list. Obviously his lateral quickness isn’t like Amen’s, but his strength and vertical explosion were 1% of the 1% of the 1%.
Remember Barkley pre-TNT, he had his lightest weight as a Philly Sixer. Suns Barkley was already a little slower but much advanced and skilled. Barkley was a tank and his hops were like athletic Ron Artest, a true power and jumping Forward.
76er Barkley was one of the most fun guys to watch in the history of the game. Loved watching him play even though I hated the 76ers.
I dunno-- I'm not seeing anything that looks otherwise, except that Amen's dribble drive and handle aren't at the level of Lebron's that allow him to attempt what he does from where he goes. If you look at leaping and help defense....not sure anything is missing. If you have today's handcheck rules and limit's lebron's ability to use his strength on-ball D... Amen may have the superior footspeed to stay infront of a player. Could you see Lebron staying infront of curry in his younger days?...
