Huh? No they aren't, they are literally two games behind the Astros and the Astros have their guys coming back.
We've been running on fumes all year long...yet we're still in first place and 3 1/2 games behind the best team in the AL. At this time last year, we were tied for first. Two years ago, we were 2 games back. We won the division both of those years.
Good series but dam the last few innings were there to be had............bases friggin loaded dam it. Walker looks like he is turning the corner and if karma is anything he should go on a tear for a bit
Got sent back to AAA last week. His .535 OPS with the big club was less than impressive and the strikeout rate was untenable. He'll be back up no doubt, maybe later this season.
Let's get back to just winning every series and we'll be fine. Full disclosure: I wasn't able to watch the game yesterday, but my phone was blowing up while everything you mention above was happening. LOL. Also, Carlos is is hitting .346 with a .931 OPS since coming back to H-town. I wonder how Matt Mikulski is doing...
Walker, Diaz, and Caratini are three of the slowest baserunners on the roster. I don't think your scenario is one that makes any sense. We needed Trammell to make solid contact, lift one to the OF, that's all, for the sac fly. Instead he and Cam Smith, slump brothers, both struck out. In hindsight, if Pena was available to pinch hit, he should have come in in the 6th with men on 1st and 3rd, instead of the 8th with guys on 1st and 2nd.
Let them have at it. Even as cynical, hopeless, despairing and bleak as they are those posters must be our good luck charms as they pull this **** every year, year after year and every year, well you know what happens. Ah, but alas they get to start their routine all over again when the playoffs start in hopes of validating their doom and gloom. That's a tough life to live as a fan of any sports team. What's the saying? "You must be fun at parties?' The divison race, 115 games in, the last 5 years: 2025: 64-51 (2 games up) 2024: 60-55 (tied) Won the AL West 2023: 66-49 (2 games back) Won the AL West 2022: 74-41 (12 games up) Won the AL West 2021: 69-46 (2.5 games up) Won the AL West Who cares 2019: 75-40 ( 9.5 games up) Won the AL West
Gotta disagree with Diaz, that boy can scoot. He's actually one of our faster players. Faster then Urias, Sanchez, Chas, Correa, Rodgers, Yordan, Walker, Parades. Diaz and Altuve are tied at 27.1 at 166 CRs.
Was sent down because he had options. The other choices for going down were Trammell and Hummel. Both of those two don't have options left so they would have had to have been DFA'd. This way we get to keep all 3 and Melton gets regular work at AAA.
3 steals in 3 seasons. That 27.1 is in the 43rd percentile, meaning 57% of MLB position players are faster. I'll stand by what I said. The fact that he's faster than all those guys you listed just means we are fielding a slow-ass club. Which is reflected in our status as 5th lowest SB total in the majors. Even though we are dead middle of the pack in terms of CS. Either way, the premise of the post I responded to is that Caratini, who is in the 2nd lowest percentile for speed, was going to steal home on the back end of the delayed double steal. A man with 5 total SB in 9 seasons. Madness.
He will have to hit - but boy was he great running the bases, stealing bases and playing the field. The guy had an OPS+ of like 50, and he was still on pace for a 4 WAR season and 50-60 stolen bases..... of course he wouldn't get to play a full season hitting his weight, but he my point is that he really has everything, except the bat.
The lack of speed, coupled with the lack of intelligence on the bases is a huge problem - especially with base stealing becoming more important. We have some young guys that can do it - Matthews and Melton both are easily capable or 50 steals if they get on base and it is made important.... but I look at guys like Meyers and wonder why he cannot steal bases or bunt.
Oh Diaz is waaaaay down in terms of the league, you said our roster, I was just pointing out he's middle of the pack on our roster, and yes, we're slow as molasses. To clarify I agree with the rest, but Diaz is actually fast for the caboose he carries, BTW, MM is still the slowest player in the league.
I remain a big fan of Diaz despite his slow start this season, I meant no slight to him. And 27.1 is lightening fast for a catcher! I'm shocked MM is still bumping around, given he's looked cooked for 5 years now. Actually he might not count for "in the league" anymore with his release yesterday...
Both Meyers and Pena should be stealing 30+ bags with ease with the new rules. I don’t get it either. Cal Raleigh has basically as many stolen bases as them and he’s slow as hell.
Big ass Josh Naylor has 10 steals in the last 2 weeks. Look it up, it's true. There is an art to this. Again when it comes to fundamentals with this team, we absolutely suck. Nobody on this team seems to be adept at stealing bases.
