Below is a pretty good explanation of the problem with tariffs by Fareed Zakaria. In fact, this whole interview/chat session with Zakaria is worth a listen. His take on the benefit of economic ecosystems (as opposed to tariffs) is also especially well laid out.
I am shocked..................SHOCKED I tell you. I don't know how these deals even become official since Congress has to do that, there is no "EMERGENCY" for the Prez to take that on...................this whole thing is bizarre but I do know that HEB prices are rising every week
"Trump is winning the trade war" lol you know how bad you have to be to have exports fall off a cliff at a time the dollar has lost 20% of its value? Its like the stripper offering half price lap dances and customers telling her to eff off
Tariffs are bringing MORE investment back to US manufacturing. A great thing. The plan is working. Trump, Apple to Announce Fresh $100 Billion US Investment https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-apple-announce-fresh-100-130329501.html (Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump plans to announce that Apple Inc. will commit to spending another $100 billion on domestic manufacturing, the latest pledge by the tech giant to increase US production of its products as it seeks to avoid punishing tariffs on its flagship iPhones.
They really want another tariff exemption. Still literally zero attempts towards building phones in the USA.
Apple is going to make the good stuff in the USA. Not the low-margin phone assembly work... From the article: “We anticipate Apple will focus on higher-end products, artificial intelligence labs and semiconductor engineering in the US, rather than mass-produced lower-end phones and accessories.”
Apple phones are low end phones now? It is over 50% of their revenue The vast majority of what Apple has planned in the US, was already happening in the US. But they are throwing carrots to try and get exemptions. Even in the theory of tariffs bringing manufacturing back, no company is doing that when they know most of the tariffs are likely temporary.
No, the point is that the assembly of the phones is a low-margin portion of the value chain. America is getting the good stuff (high margin) and India can keep the unskilled, low-margin steps. Or maybe they could give it to DC to give jobs to DOGE-cut affected people groups! GOOD DAY
Tim Cook, on the charm offensive, flexing his diplomatic muscle to get this headline publicized Tim Cook to join Trump at White House for Apple's $100B investment announcement but a little nuance is in order,
Trump places 50% tariff on India => apple announces some bs "investment" (same thing they announced in January) => Trump removes tariffs on Apple => low iq cultists celebrate while Tim Cook laughs his ass off There's nobody easier to brainwash and gaslight than a MAGA
