It's a torn hamstring - PRP's not a temporary fix. He's not trying PRP thinking he'll come back, play for a bit. and then get surgery. It either repairs things to the point he doesn't need surgery, or it doesn't fix it well enough for him to play at all.

I imagine he hopes it fixes it well enough for him to DH or whatnot, and then 4 months of offseason gives it time to heal the rest of the way.

    ........ what is PRP?

I assume any comeback this year would be a DH only? That would put Altuve back at 2B full-time and Yordan in LF full-time with Caratini, Dubon and I guess Urias rotating in (with Smith & Sanchez platooning in RF). Not a bad problem to have - but that would be lot of mouths to feed.

Platelet Rich Plasma. You do it to heal faster. Kobe went to Germany back in the day to get the treatment.

An injection of blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. Used to promote healing and allow the body to heal itself without surgery.

Others described it, but it's basically a way to get the body to heal itself. I've had amazing success with it with elbow and knee problems and it's widely used, but the science is still a little dicey so its still sort of considered "experimental". But the general consensus for normal people is, depending on the injury, to try it before surgery because it could save a ton of expense, trauma to the body, and rehab. The risk is some money and wasted time - the latter of which is a bigger deal to a pro athlete.

But yeah, if the injury is as bad as they seem to think, it seems hard to imagine he'd get it healthy enough that quickly to get back to 3B this year. So it seems like DH would be his likely scenario even if it does work.

    Paredes to the 60-day IL.

He can come back on September 18 at the earliest, which won't happen.

PRP generally takes 6 weeks minimum to have much of an effect, with the majority of the benefit 2+ months out. So that fits the early end of the timeline if all goes great with it. Personally, I'm skeptical he'd be ready to return in any real useful way, but I'm also not remotely qualified to say that.

Again, best we can hope for is DH/PH duties in the Postseason.

I'd be absolutely shocked if he can do anything else.

I've witnessed a hitter with 1 leg win a world series, so, I'd be down if he pulled PH or DH duties, though, my hopes arent high
