Third tier stars who can't be anything other than first option are the most dangerous kind of players to have.

250 mill for a hybrid Bradley Beal/Jalen Green type player.

But without their wingspan, so plays like he’s half a size smaller.

    He's much better than that.

I despise the Spurs as much as anyone but Fox won't hinder them in any way. He's in the prime of his career and is one of the best closers in the NBA.

If they want to take a step forward, the Spurs don't want a rotation where all of their key players are youngsters. They need a key veteran to steady the ship. Another factor is Victor made it clear he wants them to win more games and at least compete for the playoffs. Fox will help them do that.

It's what mid level teams do. He's obviously not worth the money but the current situation dictates something different

More like Dame Lillard plus Leandro Barbosa.

The way the lack of FAs impact smaller markets, more 2nd tier players are paid like Fox and Chet.

If Fox can upgrade his game, I can see him get to Booker or above status.

The Spurs can count themselves lucky to acquire another Tony Parker, only have to find Ginobody. (Kawhi)

Fox was playing like a top player & CLOSER at one point. Plays defense as well. Outside of Ja they're was no PG doing what he was doing. This is a good signing

It could unfortunately work out for them if Wemby stays healthy and reaches his full potential. It will be a lot of money tied up in two guys, but if Wemby does what they hope, Fox is one of the best #2 options in the league, and they've got Harper on the cheap for awhile to help with depth.

If Wemby ends up All-NBA this season and gets the supermax, but then can't stay healthy after that, they are beyond f***ed. No flexibility. But I suppose that would be the case anyway?

Love this as a Rocket’s fan.

that is a lot of cap at a position where they have lots of potential talents at. They will ALL need playing time to mature. Maybe they know things we don’t.

Having learned nothing from watching the Wizards self-destruct over the contracts of Wall and Beal.
Even in today's hyper-inflated salary market, Beal is worth maybe half that. Okay, just over half that. But still.

That team is going to be so bad and people aren't going to understand why that is.

Fox is increasing his share of the cap from 24% to 30%. 24% was an excellent number with likely some surplus value. Perhaps Fox is only worth 27-28%, which would make the max a slight overpay.

I think people see the AVV and compare it to what guys made last season and freak out. Without doing the math, I'd guess the $57M AAV is like the equivalent of $44-45 million last season. I don't like Fox to his max, but no way he was signing for $45M AAV (57*.24/.3), which was his inflation-adjusted number from his current contract. I think this is a slight overpayment, but people are freaking out because NBA players make a ton of money, and those numbers increase significantly with 7-10% inflation in NBA revenue.

Caveat: Numbers are back-of-the-napkin and should be taken as approximate.

For the Spurs if I was a Spurs fan, I'd be more concerned with Fox, Castle, Harper, and Sochan not being shooters than Fox getting $4 million more per year than he might be worth.

They won't be horrible. If everyone stays healthy the Spurs will probably be around 7th to 10th in the West and fighting for the play ins the next few years. Which is no better then when the Spurs were being lead by DeRozan and Lamarcus Aldridge. lol
