He’s injured the quad again. Not sure if it’s the same one but he knew it immediately and walked directly off the field and threw his helmet down. He’s going to be sidelined for a hot minute. I feel for him but he’s had these soft tissue issues his entire career.
I’m trying to think of the last all-star game that I cared about. It might actually be 1986 when Mike Scott gave up that home run to Frank White and Bo went deep too, I think. edit: just looked it up. Bo wasn’t in that game (duh). Lou whitaker had the other home run.
Best news this team could have in a while… this dude deserves an all-star nod & just may be team MVP at this point. Hope he decides to make a few runs in the post here in Houston. edit: how is it we got blessed w 2 starters that look and play like natural clutch Astros players??!
2026: SS Pena 2B Altuve DH Paredes LF Alvarez 3B Correa? 1B Walker RF Smith C Diaz CF Meyers They should be able to run that lineup out at least 6 times while everybody is healthy next season.
Hopefully this is an isolated incident because he’s a great hitter, but I will say I’m a little concerned about his body long term. He doesn’t seem to be in great shape, and it’s usually a bad sign when you see a player have significant injury just running the bases. I get a little bit of Pablo Sandoval vibes from him where the hitting talent is enough to make him all star caliber, but the body will probably age faster than it should.
I agree but I just think that makes him a potentially bad free agent/extension signing, he will only be 28 at the end of his current team controlled years.
Even if we only keep him for his controlled years , it's possible we make lots of value from cam and carson from the tucker trade . I think wesneski has 3 or 4 more arbitration years with us . If Isaac can have 2 more seasons at his current level with us that would be great . He's been a solid 3b . I'm not sure how he would be at second if we got Correa (fingers crossed ) Maybe he can DH and 1b some when walker sits . Man I really want Correa lol . Major bummer with this second hammy injury m luckily it's not something that should have a lot of impact on his future hitting value . But I could see it hurting him at 3b (where you have to bust it in frequently)
With knee and hand issues I don't see Alvarez in LF ever happening again (maybe like 10 starts a year).
Yeah if Paredes can’t play the field regularly then he’ll have to find time as the primary backup at 1B/2B/3B/DH. Thats fine for one season but puts a lot of pressure on Altuve. Hopefully he heals up and spend his rehab time getting adequate at 2B.
There is a big roster problem setting up for the next year. Someone(s) are probably going to have to be shipped out.
I am hoping for a really fast trip through the minors for Neyens* so as to avoid this issue altogether.
I really think he could play at DH and bench at LF & 2nd base for the next few years. A return to greatness or maybe even just a return for Alvarez seems iffy to me. Hope I am wrong.
