His power will always be there. I think the pain he was experiencing was causing him to swing differently. We need him to swing pain free.
I'm not sure they need to move it that much. Current owner is going to get close to $2 billion for the sale - Correa's contract is peanuts. New owner probably won't take over until 2027, so there will only be 2 years left on the deal and Correa is a marketable star for those years. I think the current owner would just prefer to pay Correa $40MM over the next 1.5 years he owns the team than shell out $50MM to get rid of Correa.
One of the needs to Padres had to trade Cease was to backfill his rotation spot, since they are not true sellers. They got J.P. Sears from the A's Cease is definitely gone - but to who?
They aren't - they are trying to get MLB talent back in exchange for Cease and then find other SPs to replace him. They are fully committed to competing this year.
With the Padres getting JP Sears in the Miller deal, I agree that means Dylan Cease is definitely getting moved. With that being said, my final prediction is Alcantara and O'Hearn.
I really think it comes down to how much salary the Twins will eat and what they want from us. I think the Astros want the twins to eat a lot of salary and not send anything back in return. The Twins obviously don't want to eat any salary and a couple of good prospects. We will see how motivated they are at dumping salary.
I don't think Cease makes any sense if they aren't also adding bat(s). It seems like a waste for a rental for SP #3 in what will be an uphill climb in the playoffs - you'll just lose 3 games 2-1 instead of losing 2 of them that way and getting blown out in the 3rd. Someone who's signed past this year would make more sense because at least you get some value outside of this injured-riddled season.
Hate to be pessimistic but I think we're going to be disappointed after the deadline. Dana will start spouting off about how close they were blah blah blah. Hope I'm wrong.
Definitely still a lot of time and a big group of players that are out there. IF: Castro, Correa, Donovan, Gorman, Lowe OF: O’Hearn, Mullins, Sanchez, Ozuna, Robert, Laureano, Tauchman, Thomas, Kepler, Kwan, Nootbaar, Burleson, Cruz, Pham, Larnach, Duran, Benintendi SP: Cease, Alcantara, Keller, Cabrera, Gallen, Kelly, Morton, Bradley, Rasmussen, Eflin, Severino, Ryan, Rogers, Gore, Heaney, Civale, Verlander RP: too many to list Probably half those players will be traded today.
Montero to the Tigers. Hinch, come on man. Y'all are really gonna disappoint at the deadline with a real chance to make noise in the playoffs?
I'm banking on the same prediction I made with Suarez going to Seattle. A deal has already been done between the two teams and this deal will get done, backup option is Mullins. But we are likely getting one of those 2.
They just acquired Kyle Finnegan from the Nationals. But yeah… that doesn’t really move the needle in regards to a high end reliever with elite “stuff”. And that’s what they’re missing. Finnegan has been productive, though.
