I don't think he's a Dubon replacement (this year). At this point, the team could use 2 Dubons so they can plug and play them everywhere there's a hole and get people like Hummel out of the lineup. I suspect he's a depth trade to get AAAA players off the squad.

Twine Palmer was definitely not nothing. Certainly a top 10 minor league pitcher, I had him at 7.

That's a massive stretch for someone who hasn't even pitched 50 pro innings.

System top 20 at best who might have injury concerns looming (again, he's missed 6 weeks), that's a scratch-off ticket for a decent big leaguer.

I was told Shae Whitcomb the gold glover would do fine at third?

Not happy about losing Palmer, particularly with the premium we should put on potential SP, but it's an understandable gamble with the injury issues and his effectiveness as a utility man.

Pretty exciting to think Pena and Urias will be replacing guys like Short and Hummel in the line up for Friday..

Another trade for a bat would be great but after that hopefully Alvarez and Meyers return (and possibly E-sock if we make a deep run)

Good trade. I don't see how anyone can be mad at this. We need reliable vets.

I think this is more of an adequate upgrade to the bench.

He’s got another year as arb eligible. So you get two years of a playoff contention with useful piece who can plug and play across the infield.

Palmer is a lotto ticket, but I think anyone would say two playoff runs adding a solid MLB utility player is worth a 19th round pick.

ETA: interesting to see this Orioles Reddit thread a couple of years ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/orioles/s/8Kn3hL4Tcl

    I
n short, the Orioles made him more pull happy and changed his launch angle a couple of years ago — and his overall numbers suffered. Maybe that plays up at the ice box? It seems like he’s Dubon with more Ks but 20 home run power. They also rave about his defense at 3rd — sounds like the eye test matches the numbers.

I think once everyone watches Urias play they will be happy he is an Astro

Like most, I hope we have a big move coming

But regardless, Urias upgraded an awful bench and will be an everyday player for now if there isn’t a big move coming

Urias> Any bench player currently on the roster

Urias > Rodgers who began the year as our starting 2B

Regardless of today, great trade by Dana

Remember trading Chayce McDermott to the Orioles? He hasn’t had the career that some envisioned. Trading talent like Palmer for big league talent to win is worth it imo.

I don't pay Baltimore enough attention. No idea who this guy is. Really surprised he's played as much as he has without me having a feel for his game. Stats seem fine for normal situations. Stats seem great considering Astros roster.

After looking at him more I think he’s the exact midpoint of Dubon and Paredes: a much better hitter against RHP than Dubon, but not as good at SS defensively, a much better fielder than Paredes, but not as good offensively. I think he’s a more viable everyday player than Doobie. Hopefully not the only bat they add but this was a reallly good trade.

With Paredes out 2 months, the Astros needed to get help. His numbers look average, but in baseball that is a really good thing. I’m glad the Astros aren’t selling the farm for a rental. This Astros team has so many guys on the IR that, unfortunately this is how the ball bounces sometimes. Kudos to the Astros for looking for real help without sacrificing the future of the team.

This is a great point. Speaking of Rodgers, just read about his collision in a rehab game at AAA. Now he is on 60 day IL. Poor guy could have had a chance at playing time with all of the injuries and ends up getting hurt worse on a rehab game. I guess he has had many chances in his career so can't feel too bad but this screams bad luck. He was a really nice guy when my son and I met him in spring training.
