I do - I have several technically but one main one. About once a month or two I go on a **** food bender. Popeyes is a common culprit and Portillos is another one.
I have intermittently lived overseas multiple times, and every time as soon as I come back I go on a Tex Mex, Popeye's, Portillo's (if I'm in Chicago), Taco Bell, and "American Chinese" bender. I gain 10 pounds the first month back every time!
Word. Every time I’m out of the country for more than a few weeks, as soon as I get back it’s a checklist of: Chicken fried steak Chic fil a sandwich Hamburger and fries Enchiladas and refried beans Fajitas and queso Brisket and above all, ICE WATER or SWEET TEA IN A BIG CUP.
Not so much out of the country but when I go back to Texas to visit, my first stop is T Bone Toms for some Chicken Fried steak and any place I can find some fried okra. Back in the day my go to was, Luby's Chicken Fried Steak, fried okara and collard greens. Same when I went to Pickadilly's at Alameda Mall. Not many on here would remember that.
The one in alameda Mall had pics of Astronauts on the plate, so when you finished you got to see them through a light sheen of ketchup and gravy. #Winning
Lol, I grew up on Pickadilly's food--my dad and mom loved them! Having lived overseas in 3 places (Asia and Europe for 8 years) and traveled extensively to other areas, my go to cravings upon return are Whataburger, Mexican Food and Thai. I haven't eaten Tacos from Jack-in-the-Crack since my high school shenanigans, but now I'm strangely drawn to try them again (@Nook is to blame).
Always a grease filled delight. It was our go to after a weed filled night after a concert at the Summit. BTW. When did Jack stop using their special sauce? Ate a burger there a few years back and was like this isn't my old cheeseburger.
Wait, are we talking about those tacos that are deep fried and have that weird mystery filling inside? I remember those and Jack in the Box gave packets of the worst “salsa” in the world. I grew up near the Jack in the Box on Chimney Rock and West Bellfort and had my share of those tacos. I preferred the “Chicken Supreme” - the fried chicken cutlet sandwich with cheese and such on it.
I love those damn things. I also love their eggrolls. I know they aren't real tacos or eggrolls but they are damn good. My buddy who is considered the best sushi chef in Austin (didn't get a star because Michelin couldn't get a reservation), eats them after service all the time. My other chef friend loves popeyes fried chicken.
I subsidize my steak meals through many more visits to Jack in the box, etc. I’ve been known to have the deep fried taco 2/99cents in the app from time to time.
Funny but not true For anyone interested in HOU, La Lucha does a play on these with spicy gulf shrimp
For some reason, if I’m delayed at ORD, I end up getting a Big Mac. I think my last 10 Big Macs have been there. Thankfully that’s more of a once or twice a year thing.
