I would do this and it's one of the few deals I would put Gomez in

With Suarez getting hit in the hand tonight and leaving the game - I wonder if it’s a significant injury does change him getting traded?

    The Astros have scored:
    3, 4, 2, 3,1,1,1 in their last 7 games.

It’s pretty obvious that the loss of Paredes is something they haven’t been able to consistently overcome.

The Astros owner and management either needs to make the moves to add two good bats or an impact bat, or they need to piss of their players and move Valdez and possibly Hader and others on shorter deals.

As constructed - no big league team will win missing their top player (Alvarez), all star third basemen (Paredes), MVP candidate shortstop (Pena), starting centerfielder (Meyers)- and 5 starting pitchers.

This. No half measures. Go big or sell.

Cedric Mullins or some random 6th inning bullpen guy aren't putting another banner up.

    Astros do

If both had a history of good health then yea. Lowe is injured now and Rasmussen has had pitch limits in place already this year

The Danny Jansen trade gives a sample of what the market for everyday average rental position players is like. Jansen is a 1-2 war C who hits around league average and is on a $8M salary and the Rays got back an infield prospect ranked in the 10-20 range of the Brewers org. That should be slightly below the price for guys like Willi Castro, Cedric Mullins, Ryan O’Hearn, Marcell Ozuna, or Mike Tauchman. So Houston should be able to nab one of those guys for a player from a group that includes Joseph Sullivan, Ethan Pecko, Alimber Santa, AJ Blubaugh, Jackson Nezuh, Jose Fleury, Chase Jaworsky, Luis Baez, Shay Whitcomb, or Kenni Gomez.

Long term he certainly doesn’t have their upside

But he is a better bet for solid production this year, and he could be a great utility guy for a few years if we ever get healthy

Can confirm Astros have spoken multiple times with Orioles, Twins and Rays concerning hitting and starting pitching. The Astros want a #3 starter and a starting hitter, ideally that can play multiple spots.

Phillies have been very active along with Dodgers and Mariners. Cubs plan on making a big move too.

I am skeptical that Correa will end up happening for a few reasons.

However if I did happen, I will say the Astros infield defense would be exceptional and the line up would be very deep at 100%

    Pena
    Altuve
    Paredes
    Alvarez
    Correa
    Smith
    Walker
    Diaz
    Meyers

That is an extremely deep line up and outside of Altuve, is good across the board defensively. In that scenario they would likely move Matthews in a deal for a #2-3 starter under team control for at least 2026 and let Framber walk for the draft pick.

Gore is not the guy you trade Matthews for

Gore is a stud, I would trade Matthews 10 times out of 10 times for Gore.

Life time WHIP of 1.4 and over 4 ERA. Not a stud

Astros can sell Matthews higher as one of their best prospects (and a guy who is connecting off the bat). 2 years of control is not enough for him for that high of ERA and unproven pitcher.

I agree on Matthews for a SP and allow Framber to walk. More and more evident that's the plan. I hope they don't switch it to Melton last minute though to get a deal done.

Correa in an Astro uniform again would mean this team is ready to compete this year in the playoffs. Altuve 2nd, Correa ss until Pena comes back then Correa to 3rd. Good problem to have trying to find infield space for Correa, Pena and Paredes when they all come back at the same time. Probably keep Altuve at 2nd and DH the others when possible while giving each time to rest their injuries at times.

Meyers should come back first anyhow to spell the outfield. Pena then Paredes. I think Yordan is mostly done this season.

If they trade fro Carlos Correa (which I don't think they're going to), it would be for him to play 3B and replace Paredes this season. The nostalgia factor would be cool and all, but this isn't Carlos Correa from 2017 or 2021. Have you seen his numbers this year? It's debatable who's been worse between him and Christian Walker for their team.

Mr. "At the end of day" Dana Brown talks big about this deal or that deal he has in the works, but we'll see. No one could foresee the injuries, but we all knew this team was lacking in hitters from the left side of the plate.
