If they thought Sengun was the real BPA, why didn't they pick him at #2? The reason for the Sengun trade was quite clear to me, because they chose a guard as their BPA and the big man they liked the most after Cleveland took Mobley was Sengun. So they traded for him. If they took Mobley at #2, they'd probably trade for a guard, maybe Moody or Murphy. Again, they didn't have the pick. It's not a simple "just get the BPA" thing. They had to give up assets to get Sengun. I doubt that they would do it if they already had drafted a big man.
Exactly. lol people just dont get it. We also still had Cousins and CWood iirc so why Rox will get 2 more centers for four total frps (#2 pick+3 FRP for Sengun) beyond me. People just wanna look back with hindsight but at the time nobody will even think this makes any sense.
We cant get Amen as Mobley, Sengun, Jwill and Tari are gonna be in the playoffs. And also that team is gonna break up money wise. If Mobley gets the super max Sengun is gonna demand a super max too. And then JWill wants his 56M as well lol.
just leaving these here: The Houston Rockets traded up in the 2021 NBA draft to acquire Alperen Sengun because they believed he had a high ceiling and unique skillset, potentially becoming a special player. They didn't think he would be available at their original pick (23rd overall) and were aggressive in trading up to secure him https://spacecityscoop.com/houston-rockets-thunder-forgotten-trade-gift-wrapped-franchise-player Credit to Rafael Stone. He made several bold moves in the 2021 NBA Draft to jumpstart Houston’s rebuild. It was the catalyst to this core, and there was no bigger transaction than trading for Sengun. It is just hard to believe the Rockets fleeced Sam Presti the way they did. Sengun was the 16th overall pick, but the Rockets saw his potential. They made a bold move to trade up and got their guy. Sending out two first-round draft picks sounds steep for the 16th pick To me, they saw soemthing special in Alpi. Not simply "since we already gambled on an SG lets gamble on a big to fit with him"
It's also possible that because they knew that they could trade for Sengun in the mid-first round, they picked Green rather than Mobley. I know there are other factors (e.g. the KPJ's issue) that brought them to decide on Green. But the availability of Sengun could be one of the important factors. Hindsight shows that Sengun and Mobley may fit well together. But I don't think it's in any people's mind at that time to used a high pick and spend assets to get two non-shooting big man in the same draft to start the rebuilding process.
I get what he's saying. its just very very dumb. by that logic, why not take a player even worse than Jalen to tank harder?
you dont understand simple logic. us getting jabari and amen had 0 to do with drafting Jalen. we could have had a far better player in Mobley and tanked just as hard. just because we lucked into a great outcome doesnt mean we made the right moves. why is that so hard for you to understand?
How do you tank as hard if you had a far better player? We made the right moves because now we are in a better position than if we drafted Mobley. The reason why we got Sengun is because we drafted Jalen. Its not even possible to be in the same position as with Mobley's super max contract Adams and KD wont be here for sure. I'm not the one who has trouble understanding here its you.
After Cade, Jalen had the highest ceiling in the draft. Stone went for high risk, high reward move. Its the same logic why we got Alperen Sengun, people said he is too slow and will be bad on defense but Stone traded 3 picks for him. High risk, high reward. Mobley won DPOY but at the end of the day he has not been an amazing factor for the Cavs. You dont look at the Cavs and think OMG Mobley is gonna win this game for them in the playoffs. In fact for the 2nd year the Cavs have had a great record in the regular season but disappointed in the playoffs. And this dude making 30% of the cap, same as MVPs Jokic and SGA lmao. He is making even more than Donovan Mitchell. Who is the Cavs best player? DMitch or Mobley? So before you keep acting like Mobley is so awesome, he is the reason why Cavs wont win anything. If you love Mobley so much just be a Cavs fan dude. You act like the dude is this superstar just see how far the Cavs go. For me I am happy with the Jalen Green experience that ended with Sengun, Amen, Jabari and Kevin freaking Durant. What have the Cavs done so far? 2nd round in the LEASTern conference? LMAO.
I don't care about Mobley. I wanted to draft him but what's done is done. I just cant believe anyone with the benefit of hindsight is dumb enough to still think Jalen was the right pick.
Once again, your logic is circular and ultimately makes no sense. in one post you say Jalen being worse helped us get Amen and Jabari and you say Mobley is the far better player. the next post you say that Mobley "has not been an amazing factor for the Cavs. You dont look at the Cavs and think OMG Mobley is gonna win this game" and you finish by saying "he is the reason why Cavs wont win anything." those are completely conflicting but you are making my point with the second part. We always could have just taken the better player and still tanked. you think a lineup of sengun, mobley, KPJ, Nix and Tate was going anywhere their rookie season? we would have been just as bad, but had a better player to build with in the future. SAS got Wemby and still drafted 4th and 2nd the next 2 years.
Mobley is indeed the far better player to Green. Mobley has been the DPOY and got a super max deal while Green just got around half of what he got. But just because Mobley is better than Green means he is already a superstar and worth 30% of the cap. What is hard to understand about this? Do you understand a player can be good and still be overpaid? Do you understand how the salary cap works? Mobley may be good but he isnt worth 30% of the cap. Adams is a good player you think paying him 60M makes sense? lol Secondly we wouldnt get Sengun if we got Mobley. That doesnt make any sense. We got Sengun because we got Jalen Green....why would the Rox invest 4 picks on two centers in the draft when they still have CWood and Cousins? Just get 4 centers for no reason? lol wtf use your brain please. Third, a line up of CWood and Mobley would not be the worst team in the league. CWood was great offensively, and Mobley has been dominant defensively since day 1. How would they be just as bad and get the worst record? It doesnt make any sense. You literally said Mobley is 10x better than Green. So why would Rockets be just as bad when they have the far better player? SAS got 4rth and 2nd because Wembanyama was alone in his first year and then he got blood clots his 2nd year. How is that the same as Mobley?
Actually you are the dumb one you already have the benefit of hindsight but still think Mobley is the right pick. How would our roster be better with Mobley? Just money wise we would be destroyed by his super max salary not to mention no KD either. How even would we afford Sengun, Mobley and Amen in the future? We are gonna he Cavs 2.0 with no depth cuz Mobley is overpaid. but but but Mobley is so much better than Green. Who cares? Green isnt here anymore. KD is here and he is better than Mobley and Green combined.
"Good players are worse than draft busts because they are paid a lot" "Reed Sheppard has poor shot mechanics" This kid just continues to embarrass himself.
can't tell if I am arguing with a 5th grader or being trolled. Mobley has far more value than Jalen ever did, hence the super max. I agree with you that I would not want to pay him super max but the fact is he has SO MUCH MORE VALUE than green. so if we wanted KD, we could sell Mobley for a massive haul, then trade for KD using pieces from that haul and still have a lot of value left over. we had to give Jalen + good assets for KD. This point alone means the Jalen pick was dead wrong. You say we wouldn't get Sengun if we got Mobley. Why? We were the worst team in the league and acquiring as much talent as possible. you think Rockets turn down Segnun falling because we have Wood and Cousins???? Dude this is an absolutely pathetic argument. And 100% Wood and Mobley could absolutely be the worst team in the league. Mobley and Sengun could too. are you forgetting the other 3 players on the floor? Remember giving Nix, Nwaba, Tate, Garrison Mathews, and KPJ serious playing time? you think rookie Mobley was enough to carry that trash? Did you ever even watch Wood? He was maybe the biggest negative in the league on defense. I'm not sure if you noticed but after he left our team, no one really wanted him or played him. He's been a min player for like 2 years. You seriously don't know ball at all man.
2022 season Thunder shut SGA for 'reasons', to get Chet and JDub. Season prior, Cavs had Garland and Allen play 50ish games ended up with a 22 win season for Mobley. Be it real or exaggerated injuries, teams with talent can and have throttled. Especially on that final year of tank era.
