This is a pretty silly post...but since I grew up in Huntsville and attended SHSU for a couple of years, I sorta monitor their football and basketball success from afar. And I gotta give my props to Sam Houston for having a great football season so far. They're currently number four in the D1-AA ESPN poll. Of course it helps when you have some of A&M's throwaways, but it's still nice to see the local team do good.

Yeah, I hijacked the Miami/NC game thread to talk about SHSU football because I was afraid to start a thread about it. Last year, I started a thread for the SHSU/sfa game and didn't get a single reply, so I was a little gun-shy. :D

7-1 with the only loss coming in (double?) overtime on the road the 2nd game of the season. #4 in the country. The win over sfa was really sweet because it was in their backyard and they beat us at home on a last second FG last year.

Dustin Long is really tearing it up. He made the right decision to transfer from A&M. He probably would have gotten zero playing time there. Now, he's The Man and he's got NFL scouts coming to every game to see him.

Congrats to Sam....I am always proud to see the smaller Texas schools do well....I think Trinity is playing good ball too.

On an even smaller scale my HS Alma Mater the Galena Park HS Yellowjackets are 7-0 (thread Hijack over)

Yea, I go to the University of Montana, our team is I-AA, the Grizzlies are possibly the most feared team in the division and have a huge streak of weeks in the top 15. We lost to SHS this year, but it was really a freak game and we should have won. Maybe we will meet in the playoffs.

Yeah, my Bobcats took y'all down too. :)

Hey, I heard another rumor about 610, but I don't want to derail a perfectly good Southland Football thread!

That game was actually on Fox Sports here in Houston and other than a late game push by Montana, SHSU owned them. Granted it was in Huntsville (although the small crowds at the football games don't really give Sam a great home-field advantage), it was still an eye-opening win for the Bearkats.

I know DI-AA playoffs are not usually the hot topic come December, but it should be a sign to the NCAA that DI really needs to implement a playoff system. The excitement generated would be awesome and we would get to see some great games.

I-AA is some damned good football, hey RM95 do you mean the MSU bobcats? Those are Montana's hated rivals and have one of the longest rivalry in the country at a hundred and something years.

Oh come on, man. That game was on TV in Houston and it wasn't even as close as the final score. We drilled you guys from the opening kickoff....and I say that with the greatest of respect. :D

The I-AA playoffs are great. 16 teams. All the conference winners are in and the rest are chosen at large. The games are played at the home stadium of whichever team is seeded higher, up to and including the Championship game. None of this neutral field nonsense.

I hope my Kats can finish out the season without another loss. We could possibly end the season ranked #1 and have all home games throught the playoffs. We'll have to gather up all the SHSU bbs members and do a roadie for a game or two (hopefully more).

    Eat 'em uuuuuuuuuuuuup Kats!

The only reason that SHSU won was because Derrick Farmer was hurt...wouldn't have even been close had Farmer been playing. Looks like both teams will be missing players next week due to the big fight on the field after the game....Go Jacks!

Dude, you guys got SERVED in that game--I called the play-by-play on the student radio station up there, and there was never a doubt who was in control of that game from start to finish. Dustin Long shredded your secondary, much like he has against every other team Sam Houston State has played.

I've done every home game on the radio this year, plus we did the SFA game on the road from Nacogdoches this past weekend. SHSU is TOUGH this year, and they will be heard from in the playoffs. A great way to go out, as this is my last fall on campus.

    War 'Kats! Eat 'em up!!

Nevermind the fact that you turned the ball over more, were outgained in total offense, outgained PER PLAY, and had the ball over TEN MINUTES LONGER than SHSU. Plus, you acted like punk-@$$ b*tches and started a fight after the game by blindsiding Brad Baca when he wasn't even taunting you or your sorry fans.

Quit whining about injuries and take your medicine: Couldn't beat us to go to the Big Dance in basketball in '03, couldn't beat us to keep your higher ranking this season in football.

Now, we're No. 4 in the nation and your down there at No. 16 looking up at us in the rankings AND standings.

    31-28. Scoreboard.

    I HATE sore losers.

Man, I love this thread! rocketabc, please post more often. Great stuff!

Question: Did they redshirt Noah Allen? How many years of eligibility does he have left after this year? Will he be the man next year?

Loose your best player for a game and see how good your scrubby a** team does. The only thing worth while in Hicksville is the leathal enjection table.

Lets face it..the only people who go to school at Sam are:

    1. Those who can't get into A&M, UT, or Tech
    2. Those who are too scared to move too far away from home.
    3 Ugly girls!

of course I'm just joshing..but not really!

I'm not saying that Nac is the end all be all..but I will say we might have more hot girls per capita than any other place on earth. (or at least we used to when I went there)
