Actually Southern schools have seen a surge in applicants after the antisemitic protests by the pro-Hamas crowd. Funding and high-scoring students are flocking there now in response to a leveling down of the northeastern schools. The landscape is shifting quickly as the formerly "elite" schools become crazier and crazier. Parents don't want to send their kids to a place where their kids are unsafe and also have to sit next to pink-haired, transgendereds in school while listening to lectures about white privilege.

Trump is literally saving these lost schools from themselves by attempting to restore sanity and balance to them.

    GOOD DAY

@deb4rockets watching America unravel in real time is so sad sincerely.

We're going back in time as a society for literally no reason

The greedy don't give a sh*t about protecting the environment if it dips into their profits. Unfortunately, we have a bunch of greedy bas*ards running our country now, starting from the top, down to his wealthy appointments, along with the wealthiest donors in the fossil fuels industry. It's a circle of greed, all leading back to the man who wants to live his life surrounded in gold.

There's no fixing it. These scientists and research labs will be funded in China or Europe. Once you lose the talent it's gone for a generation

No surprise, it's a super liberal place, Trump is eating their lunch on trade terms, and we are about to snatch Greenland from them.

Not at the current exchange rate. It is brutal.

The devalued US greenback, another Trump legacy.

Choice doesn't seem that difficult. But maybe it was my liberal education that taught me pedophiles are bad.

Yes. Thankfully we haven't had any ICE raids around here, but the threat of them has scared off many workers.

Peaches are on the trees, blackberries are on the bushes, tomatoes on the (not vine).

Why don't you and your whiteass friends come do some ranch work around here? I can sure use some helpers, if they can run a chainsaw and some loppers for 8 hours a day.

You’ve wandered out of your depth on this topic. Let me school you a little on the current landscape of college admissions in the US.

    - More people are applying to top universities than ever. As but one example, for the entering class of 2025, Harvard received a 57,435 applications and admitted 1,968 students, the highest number of applicants in hits history and its lowest acceptance rate. That is also the case at Princeton, Stanford, Yale, MIT, Duke, U Chicago, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Wash U, Northwestern, Rice, Johns Hopkins and on and on. This has been the case for many years and will always be the case.

    - It is probably also the case that more people are applying to “Southern schools”. But that sure as hell isn’t because talented people want to attend inferior “Southern schools”. The fact remains that the quality of professors, facilities and peers at the top universities is far superior, as are the career opportunities and graduate school opportunities available to you with a degree from the top schools. In short, qualified students with the means to do so choose top universities over and over.

    - Locally, some students who are admitted to the top universities choose the University of Texas because (1) they might have family ties to UT, (2) they might prefer to stay closer to home, (3) the cost is lower, (4) UT has Honors colleges that group the more exceptional students into smaller programs that mimic the quality of peers and teaching experienced at top universities.

    - Nobody is choosing HBU, SMU, Baylor, Texas Tech, A&M, UH over the top universities unless it is a cost issue, which is perfectly legitimate. Based on GPA and test scores, the vast majority of students at these local schools simply could not get into the top schools. They are not as smart and have not achieved as much - those are the facts. Any college counselor will tell you the same thing.

    - The landscape of US colleges has not shifted at all. The top universities remain so because the smartest and highest achieving high school students apply there and go there. Period full stop. Look no further than the data on students admitted to the universities.

    - if applications at Southern schools have increased, it is because (1) today, it is easier than ever to apply to multiple schools under the “Common Application” system, and (2) private colleges are increasingly offering scholarships on a sliding scale depending on family income, which makes these private colleges accessible to lower income families when they previously were not. It sure as hell isn’t because a smart kid would rather go to Southwest Texas State in San Marcos over Princeton, Duke or Rice.

TLDR - you are full of crap.

But you probably know most or all of this. You just want to repeat Fox News talking points because people like @CrixusTheUndefeatedGaul @Salvy think it’s true, and you think nobody will call you out on your stupidity.

[And before @strosb4bros and @raining threes come in here all mad about elitism, I completely support trade schools as a better option for kids who are not academically inclined.]

partly because of the Common App, last time I checked it allowed students to apply to 20 schools. High school students tend to 'run the board' when applying to the Ivies, and still have plenty of room left to apply to schools for which they have better odds of getting in. Acceptance rates largely reflect this artifact of the admissions process

Absolutely. The common app system has been in place a while, but the app trends for top colleges keep going up every year. Smart kids apply to them if they’re willing to write the essays. And they’re not suddenly wanting to apply to western Alabama community college like @El_Conquistador would like to suggest.
