CBS will end "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and retire "The Late Show" franchise in May 2026, the company announced Thursday, calling it "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night." CBS called Colbert irreplaceable and said the show's ending was "not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount," CBS' parent company. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-late-show-stephen-colbert-end-may-2026/
Interesting to see the demise of late night talk shows. I heard Colbert was pulling like 3 million a night while Johnny Carson pulled 9 million 60 years ago when the countries population was half as large. Anyway, good luck to him, I didn't watch, I thought his work with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show was pretty decent in the 2000s and when he had his own show on Comedy Central he still got some laughs but I didn't find his late night stint entertaining at all... just more unfunny whiny liberal screeching. Kimmel next?
He was so much worse on the late show than with the Colbert report or on daily show Probably shows what a big impact writers make
broadcast TV is a dying breed. Its going the way of radio. Media content in general is way over saturated. The barrier to entry is dramatically going down. Attention spans continue to dwindle. Whatever Gen Z is into will be the future.
honestly they're all gonna reap what they sow . . . only Fallon comes closest to Carson in terms of not being mean-spirited
Time marches on and the late night talk show format has been overtaken by new forms of delivering content. The partisan nature of these shows accelerated their decline -- especially Colbert.
The Arsenio Hall show is better than the Cobert show @Salvy @pgabriel @HP3 @CrixusTheUndefeatedGaul @Scarface281 @jo mama @Rocketeer
Don't be so sensitive, these shows have been doing political satire for decades before Trump came along. They had a field day with Clinton. Like T_J said, there's too many other ways out there to get content for this genre to stay relevant. Kind of like the evening network news. And like I said before...there will never be another Letterman.
I like Colbert, don't watch late night talk shows, but Colbert was overtly political and it's understandable considering it was his emphasis before he got the show. I don't think it makes much difference in his ratings but I'm sure plenty of Trump supporters couldn't stand him
Not Arsenio but even woke gringos could participate.... @Os Trigonum @ROXRAN @astros123 @deb4rockets @jo mama
