Interesting but probably not enough. Also, I have a hard time seeing Houston and Boston matching up on a deal this month since both teams are contending this season. If Houston trades with a team still contending it’s going to be an NL team. That’s also the reason I have a hard time seeing Houston trading for Brandon Lowe even if he’s available.
I haven't seen much if any in the way of trade rumors so far from any team. I wonder if this week is when most sellers decide to or not to be sellers? I always remembered lots of rumors around the all star break. I suppose moving the deadline back is why things appear to be moving slow.
Astros get: 2B/LF Gavin Lux Reds get: OF Chas McCormick IF/OF Shay Whitcomb P AJ Blubaugh Astros get: P Andrew Heaney OF/SS O’Neil Cruz $2M Pirates get: P Colton Gordon 2B Brice Matthews OF Joseph Sullivan P Bryce Mayer Playoff roster: SS Pena 3B Paredes LF Altuve DH Alvarez RF Smith CF Cruz 1B Walker 2B Lux C Diaz Bench: Meyers, Dubon, Caratini, Hummel SP: Framber, Brown, Heaney, Walter RP: Hader, Abreu, King, Okert, Sousa, Neris, Arrighetti, Javier, McCullers
Astros are paper thin right now. With the abundant amount of injuries to position players and pitchers, the Astros seem to have plucked their minor league system down to the skeleton crew… There are fellas with talent in the minors, but many won’t be ML ready for years to come. With a realistic shot at making a deep playoff run, the Astros may be wise in risking some future for a very real title run, present this season.
Is Heaney a rental ? i can be down for trading a for a bat , or even a high level SP ... but giving up matthews and gordon ( who im presuming has many years of control left) ( and who is having an equivalent season to heaney ) is way too much to give up for a guy of Heaney's caliber. all of our injuries have put us in a tough position where we dont know what depth we will have and we have been overperforming as of record and are looking like a strong bet to make the playoffs.
Looking at ATL , they are probably sellers ? Chris sale is having a good year but is a rental. What do yall think about that ? Too much of a Masshole ? What does anyone know about Grant Holmes ? He's having a decent year and is controllable , but may not be a top guy and ATL could be willing to part with him for future depth . ( aka gordon , blubaugh ) Houser from CHW ? Severino could be a target for improvement , is on a contract thats too rich for OAK ( any contract is too rich for oak ) . his FIP is decent . does he still throw hard ?
Don't think Sale is a rental. Maybe they have a team option. And a while ago they said they won't trade him. They're looking to compete next year so makes sense to hold onto him.
ah im dumb , I saw the reds get ... but didnt see the astros got gavin lux from the reds. I thought cruz was from the reds and heaney was the only player from PIT
landing Cruz seems like an expensive pipe-dream? Seems like we would have to give up a ton, no? It’s clear he wants to get traded, he’s had some concerning hustling/effort issues. I would be a little worried to add somebody with those types of issues, but maybe it’s just a pirates situation
Cruz is a good player but his value does not match his hype/reputation. Hes never posted a wRC+ over 110 and he’s not an elite defensive player. He screams potential because he has a combo of speed and power that very very few players have but he consistently carries very high strikeout rates. I think he could be a good change of scenery candidate and get to another level and who knows how interested the Pirates are in moving him and how they value him, but he is more of just an above average everyday player than he is a true star.
If Boston trades Duran it will be for a controllable SP as the main asset in the deal They really don't have a need for Matthews with all of their young infield guys already A deal for Duran would at minimum have to start with Arrighetti Arrighetti, Ullola, Nezuh for Duran would probably be closer to what they would want, but they could probably do better elsewhere Duran would be awesome for us though, even in what most are considering a bit of a down year, he is still ripping RHP, and isn't a FA till 2029
