I tuned out after Sheppard was shelved. I've never tuned out SL, I'm always excited to see something with the Rockets on. Not this year, all the players, every single one not named Reed, is absolute garbage.
100% on the Amen and Sengun train. So Smith also is perfect. FVV and Durant fill in nicely. If the young players take a big job, then I think we win the title but if not, I think we have a couple years to figure it out and our draft pick futures are highly valuable for trade. I have always been despised, but I am looking forward to cheering for him and I think he is a perfect player for us. I would’ve preferred that we keep it more, but if it’s attitude was too much of an issue than I understand. I am very excited to see what this team can do and it all depends on health level going into the playoffs.
Looks like Great Osobor might be on his way to our G League for depth. Great add, y'all will learn to love him. He and Ime can bond over being children of African Nationals.
The whole purpose of watching for me is to see a young Rockets prospect who might be at the end of the bench on the real squad get real minutes and see if they have any shot at contributing when it counts. Occasionally guys emerge out of nowhere. Take Reed out and there is no one on this team who will ever play for the Rockets, so I have no need to watch.
I hate that we don’t have a 2026 1st round pick. And if Reed doesn’t pan out, along with the Cam trade, I’m not sure we can continue to think of the rockets as having the best young talent in the league. Amen and Sengun are incredible prospects for sure, but there’s a good chance Bari and Tari are just high-end role players. OKC and SA continue to have injections of young talent. We need to continue to take shots in the draft while winning if we want to keep up with the Jones’. This summer league squad demonstrates we don’t have any more young talent in the pipeline if Reed doesn’t pan out.
I am still watching but NGL I’m sort of watching for prospects on the other teams - there has been way too much “hero-ball” and zone defense on the rockets side for my taste.
I think it made sense to take a one year break and develop what we have, but I agree that we need to get right back to drafting each season. Hopefully that Chicago 2nd rounder will be in the 30s and we can find a real player. More and more older prospects have been dropping really far in the draft and those are the guys who I think can jump right in and play.
Agreed. That CHI second rounder could end up being a decent pick. Plus, the Rockets could try to package that pick with their own second rounder (hopefully in the late 50s) and/or cash to move up towards the top of the second round (or maybe even the end of the first round) to get a guy they really like who falls on the first night of the draft. With the team possibly going deep into the tax in 2026-27, they could use the tax relief of a high second round pick on their 15-man roster that season.
Tari might be a candidate to bring a 2026 first back. And then we are likely to have two good picks in 2027. We do need to continue bringing young guys in, but I don’t think punting on a couple of years is going to hurt us too bad.
this. We want to be all in on 2026 as opposed to 2027. But at least we have two good chances of getting a high pick in 2027. I would be trying to package “the least favorable” of those 2027 picks to get a pick in 2026.
