Can DET use the funds that would have been slotted for their forfeited pick, or do they lose it bc they didn’t select anyone?

Wait, you FORFEIT the pick if not submitted on time?!?! Seems like they should just get a place at the back of the line when they finally submit it. Geez, that's a rough outcome!

Kyle Walker looks to be a Tony Kemp regen with some more power potential. Started at Louisiana Tech but redshirted. He then moved to Grambling and eventually portaled to Arizona State. Grinder 2B with pissant potential. Could moonlight at CF but doesn't really have the arm for it.

I did not expect a 5'9" 2B. Little bit of a nomadic career. Redshirted at La Tech as a freshman before transferring to Grambling State. Raked for 2 years before transferring to AZ State for his RS Junior year. Has walked more than he K'd in all 3 years, never having an OPS below .995. Stole 22 bases and hit 7 HRs this season. Not your typical Astros large human being, but intriguing hit tool with maybe enough speed and power to provide value offensively.

With the caveat that I don’t know jack ****, The Astros are absolutely crushing this draft, especially considering their reduced resources.

    Very interesting pick.

I did not think he was a pro prospect.

Strong commitment to Burnley, might be a tough sign!

Round 10, Pick 306: Zach Daudet, SS, Cal Poly

Daudet played all over the diamond for Cal Poly this year; he appeared in LF most often. Announced as a shortstop.

There is a one-hour break after this round; the draft will resume at 3:10.

Nah, I see on the MLB Draft Tracker that Detroit did, in fact, draft someone in the 7th round.

Nick Monistere plans in signing, will put this in the Draft Pick Tracker thread later.

Scott Kirk is the sports anchor for WDAM, the ABC/NBC affiliate in Hattiesburg, Mississippi

Daudet is a senior sign utility profile who made a lot of contact and showed enough power to be a threat for double digit HR as a pro. Seems like more of a roster filler type of pick you usually see in the 13-18 round range but they probably needed the bonus money savings in the top 10 rounds. He’s the first pick they’ve made in this draft that didn’t get me at all excited.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of their picks are either pitchers or catchers.

I believe Daudet is the only senior they've drafted. Mitchell looks to be the only player that is likely to get significantly overslot today. I wouldn't be surprised if Monistere saved a decent chunk of the pool to facilitate that pick. I don't expect we'll see any big bonuses from the Astros after round 10, but they still need to take their obligatory Oklahoma Juco player. They went relatively light on pitchers so far, so I expect most of the next 10 picks to be that demographic. They'll probably grab a college catcher and an OF somewhere along the way as well.

He strikes me as likely organizational depth that can play multiple spots on the field. it is a bit bizarre but Luhnow would make these types of picks sometimes as well. Maybe someone in the room stumped for him and everyone else said "Tenth round? Fine."

They’ve had a lot of luck with Juco or hs guys who only require a hair over the standard late round bonus, guys like Twine Palmer and Will Bush who are willing to take ~$200k, so if they end up with any of those guys I will be irrationally optimistic about them.

2nd round picks reach mlb 49% of the time.

That's just getting there. Could be Grae Kessinger.

I wouldn't know or care about who they drafted this year until 3 years from now.

Ehh some of these kids could be dealt a year from now depending on how they do.

You are right, it usually takes 3 years but if they do well, you will start hearing about them in a year or less.
