I was joking. But also pointing out that we’d already cleared it up just a few posts down before your reply which if you’d read you’d have realized there was no need for you to correct it, since the information was already out there (see posts #131 and #135 in this thread).

Always have to wait and see how the bonus piece shakes out, but all things being equal, Neyens was who I would have picked. He has the potential to be a 35 HR bat who can play a decent 3B or RF. Peak Travis Shaw (3.5-5.0 fwar player with huge power and 3B defense) is probably a decent comp.

‘Respect your opinion, but I’ll trust Dana Brown’s scouting on this one.

Xavier Neyens represents more risk than taking a college bat, but the guy has a SWEET swing and has an excellent physical makeup. He needs a lot of reps in the minors to adjust to professional pitching -- especially as the scouts have graded his hit tool as so-so. But his power is one of the best in the draft and we all know that power hitting lefties are gold. He did perform very well at the elite showcases, which is reassuring... because on his Perfect Game profile it shows a .286 batting average in 2024 (albeit in only 14 games). Astros talent developers need to go to work to unlock this guy's talent.

It will probably be 4 years or more before we can expect to discuss him being an MLB'er.

Well if there was ever a question about whether Dana Brown swings for the fences, this puts that to rest.

This is very much a boom or bust pick. He has a very high ceiling and is someone they felt would be gone at #21.

I’m happy with the pick, and it shows Brown isn’t motivated by job security because it may take awhile for this kid to make it.
Told Astros were worried he would be gone by #21.

How do the Mariners have the 35th pick - a competitive balance pick?

Edit: There’s no way they are bottom 10 in revenue or market size?

Jace fell off this year and looked lost at the plate quite a few times this season — especially against SEC teams. At one point he was considered a candidate for the first overall pick in this draft. Definitely think, he can recapture his swing from the past.

Those high schoolers are gonna be tough to sign away from their college commitments. Going Neyens in the first round has me thinking the Astros go college players in the next couple of rounds. That being said, I’d love to see them swing for the fences with some of these guys — especially Fleming and Sell. Ethan Frey would be a really good -owner hitter to go after as well.

We'll see. I won't pretend to know a ton about the MLB draft but I do like what I've read about him

Summerhill going at 42 is crazy IMO. I wonder what the concern on him was to cause him to drop.

With their 2nd round pick, the Houston Astros select Christian Walker.

    Sigh....

Obviously helps we don't have to pay for a 2nd round pick.
