The knee jerk reactions on this forum astounds me...it was just one game against a veteran team that knows each other's tendencies and obviously know ow to win.

As far as the "who's team this is"... is doesn't matter, but for anyone who thinks TMac should be the first option offensively, you are showing your lack of basketball knowledge. TMac is an offensive freak (in a good way)... he can get a decent shot off at any time at a 40% clip. On the other hand, Yao cannot get a shot off at any time because he is at the mercy of two things...teammates' ability to get him the ball, and the defense' ability to double or triple him. However, when he does get the ball, he shoots at a much higher clip than TMac (low 50's), creates easier opportunities for others (ala back door cuts), and creates foul problems for the other teams' bigs.

Thus, it's obvious we should look to establish Yao first, as it is simply our best option, in both a statistical and intangible sense.

That said, TMac will likely shoot more and score more than Yao, and that is just fine...but to not look to exploit your most dangerous weapon as your first option is just not smart.

This game was the hardest of all the opening games. The world champs on their court, raise the banner and give out the rings night! Are you kidding me...that was a hard game to win. Besides the Rox were game, that game could have gone the other way. Yao and Tmac didn't play that well, but there are 81 more games.

Exactly. It's just the one and first game. Yao's shooting will pick up eventually. And many folks noticed that he is more agressive on board and posting, good sign. :) T-Mac, definitely he is the superstar we all were expecting. It's useless arguing whose team rox is. No matter who is hot, the other guy would get less defense attention. So MM will be in either win win or down down situation. Yesterday's game is just one of few down down situations.

I'm not worried about the one game or if TMac can play under a JVG system.

I am worried that JVG might not be the best coach for this team. JVG has a distince style of game:

    1. Play D
    2. Set up a half-Court offense
    3. Use the clock as much as possible.

And as much I like JVGs defensive capabilities, it almost makes it not worth it when we struggle to score 80ppg. This is a team that should have a pep to their step, play up-tempo and try to get easy buckets. Judging from last season:

    1. We will drag the ball up court.
    2. Dribble around for another 10 seconds.
    3. Eventually jack up a shot at the end of the shotclock.

We don't have to be a running team, but we need to run when we can. It leads to easy buckets.

**We need to set our offense up faster. Don't wait for the defense to set up on us. Our offense is as bad as it is, we need to get as many easy buckets as we can.
