With all the thought of moves the Astros should make in addition to Dana Brown (on 790) saying they've been having convos with other teams since May, I just think the we're one 2004 Beltran type dynamic hitter move from enhancing our WS run. Such a damn good move at the time. We had given up Dotel (RIP) and catch, John Buck.
Cristian Javier started his rehab in Palm Beach today. 1.1 IP, H, 3 R (2 ER), 3 BB, 2 K I'm just glad he played in a real game.
Wow, I cant believe Espada has done this. Very little continuity, and yes I know there have been injuries.
His best fits are with teams that could utilize him at 1B, 2B, and/or DH. The Astros needs are many but they do not include 1B, 2B, and/or DH.
This is my point. There is zero chance he returns within 60 days of his original injury, so putting him on 60 day IL means nothing.
Maybe he meant former 2x batting title winner. Also could have meant Silver Slugger and or Gold Glove.
Reminder- once a team has sent a player on an official rehab - he has to he activated within 30 days.
Right now, this team is probably similar to Detroit in the playoffs last year. 1-2 fantastic SP but mediocre depth. Good bullpen arms to make up the difference in a short series. Short on offense. Getting Pena and Yordan along with Javier and Arrighetti makes this a top 2 team in the AL Adding Garcia and Jake makes it the AL favorite.
I’m not sure exactly how that works. Players can be pulled off of rehab without being activated (like Pedro Leon was), but I don’t know the rules for how/when they can be activated or go back out on rehab after that.
