There is simply no publicly available metric that capture individual defensive value. I am always skeptical about using one set of numbers to measure how good a player is on defense. Also, there is a thing called fit. We usually think about fit on offense, how different skillsets fit well together or not. But defensive fit is sometimes overlooked. In fact, a big part of defense is teamwork. They all have to "hide" each other's weaknesses, which include size, speed, and skills.

The more & more time that goes by, I worry that the Rockets won't extend Eason, meaning they could be looking at Tari as an asset in a trade, I know people have said Giannis, but that would likely have to include nothing just Sengun, plus the picks from Phoenix, but also Eason, I hope Amen is off limits, maybe that's what they're waiting on, that & a KD extension.

Tari is gone bro. That why they signed DFS. To sign Tari would mean they have to go over the Apron(s) or KD would have to take a more significant pay cut.

Tari's extension wouldn't kick in until next season. I think they will be able to stay below 2nd apron. For keeping Tari, I think Rockets would go over 1st apron.

At some point, I expect Tari or JSJ to be traded, but it would be more than just to move their salary to avoid the 1st apron.

And if you have another serious leg injury that impacts your career, you just lost out on 80-100 mil guaranteed you could have had. I would think Eason probably wants that guaranteed money now rather than risking it.

Agree with pretty much everything. Herb is clearly the much better defender at the moment. Dude is absolutely elite and stays in front of the player he’s guarding. Herb is in Amen’s tier defensively or very close to it anyway. Tari is just not, I hope he gets there some day. But man he makes a lot of frustrating mistakes on both offense and defense that just make you shake your head sometimes lol.

Having said all that I absolutely want him back on the team. Like other have said somewhere in the 16-20 range we should try to lock him up.

I highly doubt the FO didn’t make an offer, I’m guessing Tari likely declined and or made a counter that wasn’t accepted.

Risky for Tari because our FO offers good money. Bari/Jalen/Sengun all got paid well. Tari must have high hopes.

Tari betting on himself to have a bigger year. I bet his offer was around 4 years / 60-70

It is pretty difficult when he has just scratched the surface of his Offense, on a team where minutes are constantly adjusted to.

They are probably hedging because of his injury history - prove it this year.....and he will get it.
