next year they are paying something like $160M to Green, Book, Beal and Grayson Allen, who all play the same position… That’s…… suboptimal
I have a feeling Grayson Allen will be traded by the Suns before training camp if at all possible. Otherwise, don't be surprised at all if Dillon Brooks smacks him around in practice. They have a history.
Mavs? It's not a matter of the Suns caving. There is nothing the Suns can do. The Suns NEED Beal to give back $14M or they CANNOT stretch him. Suns have already stretched multiple players and there is a rule that you cannot have a certain percentage of dead cap on your books. They aren't asking for $13.8M just because they want the money back. The $96.9M is the absolute highest amount they can pay him in a buyout to use the stretch provision. There was talk they want to go back into the apron but if they dump him this way and do nothing else they save maybe $100M in taxes. I could be wrong about the current calculations. If you are Beal why would you give up $14M for NOTHING. I have no doubt he wants to leave but not bad enough to set $14M on fire. I think he wants to have a definite landing place with a starting job and the ability to recoup that money so that maybe after a short 1 or 2 year contract he can hit the market again. Most competing teams have used their exceptions OR have a starting SG. Clippers are the main target but they have spent their money. Remember too wherever he goes, Suns I believe get to claw back a large portion of that money. I could be wrong in the rules regarding buyouts versus waive provisions.
If the Suns draw a line in the sand, Beal will give in. He won't be giving up all $14M because the Clippers can offer him ~$10M over 2 years. He'll only be sacrificing up $4-$5 million grand total.
Clippers only have $2.25M left in NTMLE. They could sign him as a vet min for over $3M. They are hardcapped like we are at the 1st apron but they have room just not the ability to sign salaries. They have a higher trade exception but wouldn't be able to use it.
