Excited for him. Does start the clock though? Our players we are fielding have less of any future than he does. We can afford a little .500 baseball until the mash unit begins to arrive.
Clock starts the second you get called up, but it also stops the second you get sent back down. At least when you are young, which Matthews is. if he sticks forever he’s not even super 2, and we have him through 2031. if he’s lousy and we send him back down for the year after 2 weeks or so, then next year you just have to have him in the minors for about a month before you call him up and we will have him through 2032 (but he will be super 2). if he sucks, and we send him down, and don’t call him up until next July we will have him through 2032 and he will not be super 2.
I don't think it means anything regarding Pena. I think it gets Altuve back to LF vs the yahoos we have been throwing out there. People that don't belong in the majors. Dubon still mans SS until after the ASB. McCormick will head back to playing center field after the ASB, along with being spelled by Dubon from time to time.
Who's DJ? LaMahieu? I guess that could be an option. He'll basically be like adding another Dubon. That's how light his bat has become. Literally just a singles hitter at this point. Better than the bats he would replace (Hummel, Trammell)? Yeah, but that's not saying a whole lot.
