It’s the point I was making some time ago that if the Astros wanted to suck for 2 years (the obviously can’t do that this year) that wombat you could part our roster out for would be pretty absurd. Well, until Yordan and some other guys got hurt.
If he is waived you only owe him the prorated share of the league minimum. I doubt anyone is taking on much of his contract in a trade.
Is that how it works. I thought if a vet clears waivers, he is free agent and can negotiate anything he wants. Since DJ qualifies for a no trade clause, he can dictate the team they can trade him to. He can force a trade to the Astros because it's better to have someone eat part of his salary and get something from us than nothing at all.
Vets can sign for whatever they want, but anything they make gets subtracted from what their previous team pays them. So getting paid more than minimum doesn't net them anything unless some team pays them more than their original contract, which never happens.
My top LF choices: 1. Duran 2. Kwan 3. O'Hearn Let's go get one of those 3 if they become available, I think all 3 will be available.
Duran or Kwan are crazy valuable. Think Arrighetti, Melton, AND Matthews O'Hearn is better, but there will be tons of competition which means an overpay. Gusto or Gordon + Fleury, and Santos?
So let me get this straight. You didn’t think we had enough to offer the Pirates for Cruz but you think we have enough for Kwan?
So we have as trade chips. Ullolla. Arighetti. Blubaugh. Matthew's. Melton. And more (maybe Walter and Gusto?) . And it's possible to land a Kwan or Duran or Arraez (2b) for em? See if our Yordan Melton Meyers Arrighetti are able to get better to confirm our needs. Core seems to me to be. Pitchers-Brown and Framber Batters-Cam, Paredes, Altuve, Diaz and Carratini. Limping to the 2nd half and playoffs. Cmon get some of these dudes back and healthy and playing at an optimal level!
I would give up Arrighetti/Blubaugh plus more for Duran. He's got the makings of a star and is under contract for multiple years.
With all the injuries and the need for up to 3 bats: Astros get: 2B Willi Castro CF Cedric Mullins LF Ryan O’Hearn SP Charlie Morton $13M Orioles get: SP Miguel Ullola SP Ethan Pecko P Alimber Santa OF Chas McCormick Twins get: P AJ Blubaugh IF/OF Shay Whitcomb Playoff roster: SS Pena 3B Paredes LF O’Hearn DH Alvarez 2B Altuve RF Smith 1B Walker C Diaz CF Mullins Bench: Castro, Dubon, Meyers, Caratini SP: Framber, Brown, Morton, Javier RP: Hader, Abreu, King, Okert, Sousa, Garcia, McCullers, Arrighetti, Walter Adding those 3 bats gives insurance against one or more of Meyers/Pena/Alvarez not coming back this season. The Astros give up 4 of their top 15 prospects plus McCormick for 4 rentals. That may not be enough. I wouldn’t want to give up Matthews, Melton, K Alvarez, or Janek for a rental. How would we feel if the orioles demanded Arrighetti and Ullola for O’Hearn, Mullins, and Morton (with Baltimore eating enough money to keep Houston under the tax)?
Can we trade our entire coaching/managerial staff (minus Murphy/Miller) for the other pro-baseball team’s staff, located about 20mins down 59S?
