Agreed. MPJ is probably a better player than Cam, but Cam fits them better. It then allowed them to significantly improve depth. That unprotected first though may haunt them years from now... Jokic will probably still be putting up 20-10-10 at age 37, but they better hope they can hit on some young talent between now and then. ETA: The Jonas V news may end up as a hit, though. Especially at this point, there's not many replacement options. Capela would've been a nice fit there.
The Kings just need to admit defeat and they've screwed up their own rebuild. They need to blow it up and start all over again, they are just going to thread water otherwise.
@Plowman was so sure we were going to get him. I'm glad you were wrong and hopefully you can move on from that fantasy. 35% of the cap dedicated to Booker is not a good business decision.
https://www.espn.com/contributor/shams-charania/ba8616d7c1e37 I predict this is going to bite them in the ass big time. $57M a year for a guy who is probably going to hover in the 10-15 range his whole career while being difficult to build a championship roster around due to his inefficiency and poor defense in the frontcourt. At least with overpaying a guy like Jaylen Brown he is a two-way player who can plug into a lot of different roster constructions. Sengun's deal is going to look so incredible a couple years from now.
True, but I'd argue they're good defensively despite Banchero, not because of him. And they've paid for it so far with floor spacing, because they have a lot of other players who are good at defense but not good at shooting. The problem with Banchero is he has to be compensated for in multiple ways--because he's an inefficient shooter who's in love with midrange shots, you need a lot of good floor spacers around him. Because he's a bad defensive player in the frontcourt, those guys also need to be great at defense. It's reminiscent of Rockets fans' earlier concerns with Sengun--except Sengun is not as in love with bad midrange shots, has proven himself to now be a solid defensive player, and is getting paid $37M a year, not $57M.
I am more concerned with injuries, if he is healthy and gets his 23 and 10 then yeah, he deserves this extension. Or 23-7-6 for that matter. He can't miss like 35 games a year, that would be gradually going into Zion territory. Orlando is much more dependent on PB than Houston was on Sengün. For Paolo he has to become a much better scorer like Durant and a mediocre defender to make a greater impact, for sure.
