the "best team in baseball" just got swept, by a combined 29-6, at home. and ESPN's home page is "crickets"...
Why do yall concern yourselves with these trivialities? The sports world doesn't revolve around the Astros.
LA getting swept by the Rockies would have generated the same attention, because no one cares, nationally, about a July series where the Darlings lose. Even Dave Roberts deflected it when interviewed. They don't care about the opponent right now. They just want to win a lot of regular season games. Flush the embarrassing and revealing losses down the commode. They want to look at the narrative forest, not the in-real-time issue-trees and losses to teams that might be obviously outplaying them. It'll bite them in the ass later, I'm sure. Modern sports media is (unfortunately) 100% narrative driven and the surprising, duct tape and staple fastened Astros besting the West Coast darlings before the ASBreak does absolutely nothing to drive clicks outside of 713. So, No, I don't expect any headlines. I also do not care. Get to the WS and clobber the league preferred and protected Dodger Darlings, then enjoy drinking their sweet tears!
Or the city of Houston for that matter. I figured that out as a teenager when the Rockets won the Finals and couldn't even make the cover of Sports Illustrated. F em
But.... the triple 100 loss astros made the cover of SI, who then nostradamusly predicted they would win the WS 3 years later. Media just hates the rockets =(
Its ****ing weird, not only are we not on the front page we're not on the mlb front page, not even in headlines What the ****?!
ESPN is loud and obnoxious. They don’t dare analyze, but instead polarize the narrative. They endlessly try and build a soap opera of heroes and villains. There is no appreciation for great feats, if it’s not in their storyline. Folks watch ESPN for what is trending in the sports news cycle, and not what is spectacularly amazing. It boggles my mind how fans love to hate ESPN, but covet that their favorite teams be endeared by ESPN…. The truth about sports, is that there is so much meat to the bone in the sports world, that it would overwhelm the regular fan; especially the fan that only cares about their home team. So ESPN has feasted on the choice cuts; you know the ones that people either hate or love…. As familiarity gets eyes to their shows, and the commercials can justify paying those insane fees to advertise on ESPN. I don’t watch ESPN because I like the teams that I like, and the national sound bites don’t really resonate with me. What ESPN says I take with a grain of salt, it’s mostly blah….
