Cam Whitmore traded to Wizards for 2 2nd round picks

What kind of intel do you have, because it is absolutely not a foregone conclusion that we are trading for Giannis, unless you know something everybody else doesn't know. I don't know why you think the Rockets FO and Ime have been impatient. They let the core and Green play it out last year when the didn't have to. Trading Green before the deadline last year would have been completely defensible, we knew Green was a goner, but the FO was patient. Same is true now. They will likely see how this team works, and if they think they need to make a move they will make one, but the FO hasn't been trigger happy. In fact, they've been the opposite. You could argue that they have held on to too many guys for too long. It seems really short sighted to say that trading for Durant means they are going to shift their whole team building philosophy. Durant fits this team's most glaring need. We all know that.

As far as people saying Cam didn't get a chance....I don't think people understand that you don't earn your chance to play only by what you do in games on the court. You earn court time by how you practice, how you conduct yourself, how you take care of your body, there are a million different things. He didn't play because of all these things.

 

We did not give Cam a chance. You know who we gave a chance to? The guy who had to beat his girlfriend half to death before we let go of him and Cam has more talent in his pinky finger than that tucking clown. This was a bad move.

 

Not sure if this was posted yet or not on Cam trade: Michael Scotto: Cam Whitmore was nearly traded to the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade, league sources told @hoopshype . Instead, Phoenix opted for more future second-round draft pick compensation.

So I guess the Suns didn’t want him either, they opted for the 2nd round picks instead. Those professional front offices must know something about him. So we gotta just let this thing go already, the deal is done.

Yeah, fair or not, he’s market value seems to be two 2nds. Coming from Wizards, that should be one of the better deals we could find. And it’s his hometown with no inspiration to win any time soon. Win win for both sides I guess.

 

KPJ wouldn't have been able to get off the bench for this team either. The only reason KPJ played so much is we were literally trying to lose. Cam's going to Washington so he'll be able to tank command there.

 

Yeah, apparently his market value is two SRPs. Stone is supposed to be a very cautious GM. This trade wasn't a kneejerk kind of fire sale. There was report that the Rockets were trying to trade him for a long time. I guess they just couldn't find a better deal.

 

Cam was given many chances to meet expectations and he didn't. It sucks we couldn't get a late FRP for Cam but the league ended up setting the value. There really aren't a lot of minutes on the Rockets to go around, especially for a player that has consistently

We are still a very young team with multiple players we are still trying to unlock a higher level on. We did a bit of pruning of young players this offseason with Green and Cam gone.

I said it in a different thread before the trade, but I wish the Rockets could’ve worked it out with Cam. I think he could’ve had a chance to earn significant minutes this year. Hopefully he gets a chance to prove his ability at this level and doesn’t go the way of Josh Christopher (fringe NBA players who should explore overseas).

The Rockets will now need to take advantage of the stragglers in FA (Jones and Trent were available last year) or look for the buyout market during the year.

I suspect that moves are done for now, but look forward to February/March 2026.

I love it. Shows we’re finally serious about gunning for a title and not just trying to keep draft picks happy.

 

Gunning for a title at this point in our rebuild doesnt fit. We should still be developing. Gunning for a title and being impatient gets a lot of teams in trouble. But I guess we'll see what happens.

 

They dont know anything about him. Hell we barely know how he plays.

 

I’m going to hold your hand while I tell you this - we finished as the second seed in the West last year. We are no longer in a rebuild.

 

Sounds like they did him a solid and possibly had some better offers on the table. He's from the area and they will have plenty of opportunity for him to play. Phoenix opted for the second round picks, but the deal wouldve been quite different as they couldnt have just absorbed Cam without giving up something else... Or No Dillon in the trade.

You don't like the direction. So you don't like getting rid of losers, adding a hall of famer while keeping basically all of our assets, and trying to win.

I thought that, too. But the KD trade made it obvious the FO thinks now’s the time, and Cam’s window to try to fit into the culture got slammed shut.
